OUR MISSION

APET's mission is to greatly reduce populations of unwanted dogs and cats, and to reduce animal cruelty, including neglect and abandonment, through spay/neuter initiatives and education.
We recognize the importance of education and public outreach to foster a sentiment of compassionate, responsible pet ownership.
APET also seeks to expand it SPCA-type shelter to provide refuge and adoption options for a multitude of homeless dogs and cats.
Wood County, Texas and the greater East Texas area.

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    1. or look online and find a pet
  2. Submit Application
    1. Applications are found on our website at www.apetshelter.org
  3. Interview
    1. Could be by phone or in person. This helps us match you to a dog that will fit your lifestyle and family.
  4. Home Check
    1. We assess the home for safety for the animal. We also require any other animals in the home be spayed and neutered and uptodate on vaccines
  5. Approve Application
  6. Pay Fee
  7. Take the Pet Home

Additional adoption info

We strongly prefer all our LARGE dogs to go to homes with Fenced in yards.

In some cases, we can make an exception to this.
