Rescue FAQs

NCSR is a non profit breed rescue group. We take in shelties of all ages from shelters and owner turn-ins. We are not a shelter, all our rescues live in foster homes and are evaluated for temperament. Shelties loose their homes for many reasons; moving, new baby, owner can no longer care for it are among the most common. Our goal is to place the dog in a new home where it will be loved, cared for and will live out the rest of it's life.
NCSR covers MD, DE, SE PA and WV.

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    1. Applications are required as a first step. You may complete one on our website, or we can email or snail mail one to you.
  2. Interview
    1. Once your app has been reviewed by our rescue coordinator, we will call you if we feel you are a good match for one of our dogs.
  3. Home Check
    1. One of our volunteers will come to your home to see where the dog will live and meet you.
  4. Meet the Pet
    1. Once the prior steps have been taken, you will be able to meet the dog and his foster home.
  5. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. If you love the dog and the dog loves you, and all is in order, the adoption contract is signed and the adoption fee is paid.
  6. Pay Fee
  7. Take the Pet Home
    1. In many cases, we may bring the dog to you if the dog is very skittish and/or a flight risk.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fee is (normally) $350.00. All our dogs are vet checked, altered, up to date on shots. Some of our dogs may require a fenced yard. We do not place in homes with electronic fences. Puppies (under 12 months) are $400.00. We have a Senior to Senior Adoption program, with a discounted adoption fee for those who would like to adopt a senior sheltie.
An application, home visit and adoption contract are required for every adoption. Please visit our website at www.ncsr-md.org for more information.
