Our adoption coordinator will review your application and if approved, your information will be passed onto the foster!

Meet the Pet
After agreeing on a time/location, you can get a chance to meet your kitten!

Sign Adoption Contract
If you and the foster feel it's a good fit, you can fill out the adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee.

Adoption fee is $100 per kitten and includes spay/neuter surgery, deworming, FeLV testing, FVRCP and FeLV vaccines and microchip with registration. Our kittens become adoptable starting at 12 weeks to make sure kittens get all of their required treatments.
Adoption fee is $60 for an adult cat and includes spay/neuter surgery, deworming, FeLV (and FIV) testing, vaccines (FVRCP and rabies), and microchip with registration.
The adoption fee actually does not fully cover the cost of raising kittens which also includes formula, food, medications, bottles, carriers, and other supplies. We rely on other Feline Medicine Club fundraisers to help defray these additional costs.

The Orphan Kitten Project is a vet-student run, non-profit organization at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Orphaned and abandoned neonatal kittens under 8 weeks of age are taken in from the community and given a complete physical exam by the project coordinators. These kittens are then fostered by members of the community who bottle raise them in their own homes. The kittens are weaned, FeLV tested, spayed or neutered, provided any necessary medical treatment and given their FVRCP and FeLV vaccines before being put up for adoption.
The purpose of this Project is twofold: 1) We aim to rescue these animals (since many would not survive without our care), get them spayed or neutered, and placed into caring homes. 2) The Project is an excellent way to train future veterinarians in kitten neonatal husbandry techniques.
None of our foster kittens are involved in non-invasive medical research and no healthy kittens are euthanized because a permanent home cannot be found. All kittens remain in the program until they are adopted out.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?
When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.
So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
