Rescue FAQs

Forget-Me-Knot Rescue is an Ohio non-profit organization. We have applied for tax exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We will let you know when we achieved tax exempt status, then your donations to Forget-Me-Knot's rescue efforts will be tax deductible! Forget-Me-Knot is a rescue, not a shelter. We rescue lost, homeless, abandoned, and neglected cats and dogs. All of our rescues receive veterinary care and are spayed or neutered prior to placement. Spaying and Neutering is important to reduce cat and dog overpopulation and makes for a better behaved and healthier member of your family! Our rescues are fostered by volunteers until we can place them in their furrever home! In addition to rescues that we perform ourselves, we also work cooperatively with animal control officers and other shelters and rescues to assist cats and dogs in need and to place them in permanent homes. We spend lots of time interacting with families interested in adopting our rescues and ask lots of questions. We do this because we want to be as sure as we can tat the placement is right for both the family and the rescue. We help adiptive families understand how to successfully make their rescue part of the family, the importance of good food and regular veterinary care, and how to keep their new family member safe. In the case of a cat, we also spend time helping adoptive families understand the myths about the need to de-claw and how to provide your cat with what she needs to satisfy her urge to scratch without destroing your house! This effort has paid off because we have never had a car or dog returned because things did not work out. However, if at anytime an adoptive family is unable or unwilling to keep a rescue, they must return the cat or dog to us. If you are interested in adopting one of our rescues, please call 330-289-4640 or send an e-mail to forget-me-knot@earthlink.net. We will answer your questions and send you an adoption application. References, including a vet reference, are required.
