Paws and More Animal Shelter

PAWS & More, also known as Washington County Humane Society, is a private, adoption-guarantee shelter located in Washington, Iowa. “PAWS” stands for “Providing Animals with Shelter”, while “More” stands for the loving care and treatment we give to every animal who passes through our doors. PAWS & More has been an organization since 1978. It serves as animal control for all of Washington County and most of its incorporated communities. PAWS & More provides humane care to all animals needing protection, seeks suitable homes for animals without owners, and provides euthanasia when only medically or behaviorally necessary. It also works in cooperation with other shelters and rescue organizations needing assistance when possible.

PAWS & More Animal Shelter primarily serves the City of Washington, Iowa, and the rural area surrounding it. PAWS & More is a 501c3 public non-profit organization. It is governed by a Board of Directors who have authority and financial responsibility. A full-time paid Executive Director supervises other staff and is responsible for safe and efficient day-to-day operations. The remaining work is done by volunteers.
