Rescue FAQs

FLFAA is a non-profit animal welfare organization based in Rochester, New York. Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) public charity in 2006, our mission is to enrich the lives of displaced cats and kittens. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." --Benjamin Franklin Our primary focus is on curbing the cat overpopulation problem. We believe in educating the public on the consequences of irresponsible cat ownership and empowering those who seek help with stray or feral cats. We aim to provide the community with the knowledge and tools needed to become proactive in the fight against cat overpopulation. To that end, we participate in TNVR (trap, neuter, vaccinate, return) of feral cats. Friendly strays and kittens are brought into the shelter when possible, and provided with all necessary veterinary care and creature comforts. We rely on excellent foster families to care for our kittens until they are fully vaccinated and can be introduced into the shelter environment. We do not euthanize cats to "make room" for other cats. ALL OF OUR ADOPTABLE ANIMALS ARE SPAYED OR NEUTERED PRIOR TO PLACEMENT. FLFAA is entirely staffed by dedicated volunteers and funded through private donations. We rely on a generous public to support our efforts. FLFAA participates in trap, neuter, vaccinate, return (TNVR). We try to educate the public on the plight of feral cats in the United States and urge people with "wild" cat problems to take a proactive role in bettering the lives of these forgotten animals through TNVR and responsible colony management.
