Adopt

Hilltop Animal Rescue Team

We scout the shelters in our areas and in surrounding states for pets that would be easily adoptable. Those include puppies and dogs with excellent temperaments and dispositions. We watch those pets while they are in the shelters. We keep in contact with the shelter volunteers and administrators, letting them know that if their time comes to be euthanized we will agree to pay their pull fees and any related costs and bring them home with us. We wait until that last minute in the hopes that these puppies and dogs will find their forever homes, and that we are only pulling those that have no other place to go. On their day of euthanasia if they are not yet adopted we will drive to the shelter and fill out any paperwork that needs to be done, pay the fees, and bring the pet home with us or send it via transport to a foster home to keep it until it’s forever home can be found.

Any dogs that we bring in must be evaluated prior to adoption to ensure that it is going to a proper home. We strive to place each pet in a family that is suited for it, so that it never has to look for a home again. So although you may see an adorable lab puppy and think it’s love at first site, it may not be the best option for you if you have small children and live in a tiny little apartment and lead a sedentary lifestyle. You may be more suited for a dog that has a more laid back, relaxed personality or one that needs less room. Finding a home for each pet isn’t our goal; finding the perfect forever home for them is.

Rescue FAQs

We are a group of middle Tennessee people just like you that love animals. All of the expenses incurred for all of the rescue work done comes out of our own pockets. We are not a non-profit organization so we can’t ‘write off’ expenses. Expenses for the animals includes but is not limited to pull fees from shelters, vaccinations, spay and neuter procedures, grooming costs, feeding, heartworm and flea / tick preventatives, surgery and or medication for any needed medical care, boarding fees, training costs, fuel and hotel bills for transports. We do however have a wonderful network of area professionals that work with us and provide discounted fees, supplies, and services.

Additional adoption info

Adoption Process:
The adoption procedure is a two step process. First you fill out an adoption application for the pet you are interested in. If you don’t have a specific pet in mind, just make note of that on the application and we will be happy to help you match your family and lifestyle to the pets we have available.

Once you have completed the adoption application we will begin confirming the information you have provided us. Once that is all confirmed we will contact you. At this point you may or may not need to complete a home check. Once approved you will fill out the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. This contract will state exactly what your responsibilities are for your new pet, what the pet is that you have chosen, and line out the requirements of the adoption.

Before filling out the adoption application, please make sure you read through the application and the contract both to ensure that you are able to provide the pet with the requirements it needs. Some pets may require expensive routine grooming. Most pets require an inside only home with a physically fenced (not underground) yard. Be sure that you are aware of the needs of the pet you are interested before you proceed with the adoption application.

We have adoption programs available for various situations. We offer low cost adoptions to low income families as well as the elderly and those on fixed incomes. Adoption fees can range from $50 to $120 and can be adjusted for low income families to as little as $30.

Special Programs:
Already have a pet and you need to get it spayed or neutered but just don’t have the money? Contact us; we can put you in touch with low cost spay and neuter programs and may be able to subsidize the balance of the fees for those with limited income.
