Rescue FAQs

The Humane Society of Ashland County is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of animals through the rescue, care and placement of injured, abused, neglected and abandoned animals into permanent and loving homes. We serve as advocates for animals, strive to end animal overpopulation, and are committed to providing community service programs and educating the public about the humane treatment of animals.
The Ashland County Humane Society is a non-profit, tax exempt, volunteer based organization, with NO facility, dedicated to the welfare of animals in the Ashland County area. Independent of the Ashland County Dog Shelter, the Humane Society relies greatly on our network of foster homes, and local animal welfare advocates and organizations. The society funds itself through its own fund-raising efforts, animal surrender and adoption fees, and the generosity of the local community. All members of the Board of Directors and committees are unpaid volunteers.

Additional adoption info

CATS:

The Ashland County Humane Society takes in homeless cats and kittens, caring for them until they can be adopted into loving homes. We do not yet have a shelter, so all of our cats are housed in volunteer foster homes while awaiting adoption.

All of our cats are feline leukemia tested & FIV tested, wormed, micro chipped, receive vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered prior to being placed up for adoption. We charge an adoption fee of $75 for each cat or kitten to offset veterinary costs.

DOGS:

The Ashland County Humane Society also works with the Mansfield Correctional Institute to help homeless dogs in need. Dogs enrolled in the program are housed at the prison, and are cared for by specially selected inmates, who also train the dogs.

A professional dog trainer works with the inmates, teaching them how to train the dogs, who learn basic obedience and are housebroken, making them easier to adopt into families.

All of the dogs receive vaccinations and are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. An adoption fee of $165 helps to offset veterinary expenses.
