Rescue FAQs

Heaven Can Wait was established in the spring of 1999, starting with 20 odd cats and 3 dogs. In the years that have followed, we have moved our operations to an acreage southwest of High River and currently care for 35 - 40 dogs, and over 200 cats. The Adoption Centre was opened in 2008, and has been a great place to come and visit with the cats in an open environment. We also offer the Spay It Forward Program, an incentive we started in 2009 to help financially challenged families and individuals have their animals altered. We are supported by various fundraisers throughout the year, and private donations.
Heaven Can Wait works in the rural communities south of Calgary to reach abandoned, abused and neglected domestic animals. Our animals come to us from individuals, other rescue organizations, those in the farm/ranch community and the members of Bylaw Enforcement. We also operate Heaven Can Wait's Adoption Centre in High River, Alberta, where up to 35 of our adoptable cats lives on site and the public is encouraged to come and visit, and hopefully choose a new family member.

Additional adoption info

We have a short on-line application form to give us the basics of your lifestyle and experience. Turnaround time on applications is generally 48 - 72 hours. References are checked. For dog adoptions, appointments are scheduled to have the family come and visit the dog you're considering, and a 10 day foster-to-adopt period is offered on all our animals to give people a chance to get to know your possible pet before committing. Dog adoptions are completed in the new owner's home. Cat adoptions are done at our Adoption Centre at 938 Centre Street S. in High River. All animals currently available for adoption can be seen on our website at www.heavencanwait.ca and full descriptions are available. We are unfortunately not in a position to ship our animals out of area.
