Shelter FAQs

As part of Pottawattamie County Animal Control, our shelter sees all kinds of animals! However, our shelter was designed to house only dogs, so we are always looking for foster homes to house these other animals. We are a small shelter, but we seem to have large needs at all times. We need donations for medical care for our dogs. And if you are 18 or older and love dogs, stop by one of our events to get a volunteer application or download an application at http://www.pottcounty.com/departments-services/animal-control/#VO. Mail or bring the application, along with the background check and a copy of your driver's license to the address shown above. Thanks to all who support the Pottawattamie County Animal Shelter.
Unincorporated areas of Pottawattamie County, Iowa. We will get them vaccinated and sterilized as soon as we can after the 5 day holding period or soon after a dog is surrendered. The price for adoption will be $120 and just like it is now.

Additional adoption info

At the time of adoption, all of our dogs and puppies are spayed or neutered, have a nationally registered micro-chip, are current on all shots (including rabies), have been de-wormed, and have had a heart-worm test. They will be bathed, have their ears cleaned, and receive flea treatments as needed. We also spend time evaluating our dog's temperaments to find out if they are dog, cat, or child friendly. The dogs are in great health when they go to a new home! Our adoption fee is $120.00, which covers all of the above procedures/treatments. If the surrender or stray came to us already sterilized, the fee will be only $40!

SORRY! Credit or Debit cards are not accepted. Cash or checks only.
