Rescue FAQs
VOKRA’s mission is to end cat overpopulation and homelessness. We rescue, heal, then place cats - first in our network of foster homes, then in carefully matched, loving, forever homes. We are a passionate, volunteer-driven charity with extensive cat care experience. We believe that no kill is the only responsible approach to rescue, that Trap-Neuter-Return works and that cats are AWESOME!
Metro Vancouver. We also work with many shelters/groups from around the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.
Adoption steps
- Submit ApplicationBefore submitting an application, we ask that you review the information on cat care and our policies here: https://www.vokra.ca/adopt
- InterviewOur adoption counsellors focus on educating our adopters on cat care. Once approved, they use a matching process to find your perfect pet.
- Meet the PetWhen you find a kitty you like, you will arrange an appointment with the foster home - where the kitty feels most comfortable and confident.
- Sign Adoption ContractOur adoptions contract process includes reviewing critical cat care information and providing contacts for post-adoption advice.
- Take the Pet HomeWoo hoo! You will be expected to take the kitty to a free post-adoption vet check within 2 weeks, and follow up on any required vet care.

Each year more than 1,400 cats and kittens are adopted through VOKRA. We're always here after the adoption if you need ongoing advice.
Response times can vary, depending on the time of year and available volunteer resources. Applications and help requests for non-emergency issues will usually receive a response in 1-3 days.
