Happy Paws Rescue is a non profit animal rescue. We rescue animals within Yuba and Sutter counties. We are a rescue founded in the year 2012 but we have rescued and have been involved with animals officially the last 8 years and technically our whole lives.
We rescue animals because we believe down to our core, our soul that animals matter! They are not disposable, they do have feelings and every life is worth saving, giving a second and sometimes third chance. Just being alive makes them matter. Thats it. It does not matter what breed, who they are, where they have been, what someone has done to them. Every life counts.
Our rescues are placed in foster homes. What does this mean? It means that the rescues live in houses until they are adopted. We only can take in what we can care for properly and keep healthy. We cannot take in more than we can handle.
We will never euthanize unless it was a last resort. And believe me it has to be pretty bad before we would ever consider this. We only can take in when there is an open space/room and when someone is adopted we will take the next in line.
We promise them when they come into our care that their lives are going to change. We will make sure the best we can that they will live long, healthy life. I always say to them when they are surrendered..."Don't worry, they did you a favor, I will get you a home that cares, who will love you and never leave you behind".
We officially started years ago when we lost our cat and literally scoured the city looking for hours, weeks, months and even wonder about our Lady Bug today. She went missing. We put up flyers, walked neighborhoods, drove for countless hours even into the next counties. I just wanted her back. We never found her but saved about a dozen cats in the process. Kittens trapped in a school gutter, a kitten out in the Sutter Buttes Wildlife refuge etc.
Then we started bottle feeding kittens. There is a great need. So many are motherless every season, even today. Well through the years it snowballed. We trickled into dogs and here we are today. Our first rescues were Eva and Elvis two little Chi/Dach's. I will always remember them.
I wouldn't trade rescuing for the world. It is a lot of heartaches, headaches and work but very rewarding to see these lives come from nothing and end up with everything. It is amazing...seeing their lives transformed and teaching us humans lessons along the way.

that are looking for new family members
-are ready to commit to that 10,15 and 20 years
-spay and neuter
-knows that these are rescue animals. They are not perfect and may take some time to adjust to their new family, home.
-Indoor homes! Dogs do not like looking through windows, out in the elements day in day out. Alone.
-Have the time, love, space and money it takes to care for an animal. If something were to happen medically-- they can't save their own lives. Their lives are in your hands! So we need people who care.
Our Process
The first step in adoption is to give us a call the day you are able to come and meet your potential new family member and take them home.
We update daily and the dog may be gone by the time you are able to come. We are on a volunteer basis so time can be tight and the volunteer is giving up their family time to meet with you, talk with you. Aside from their time taking care of the rescues as well.
We do however do not mind questions at all. We are happy you are asking.them. This shows that thought has been put into this process and we are very thankful for this.
After the call if all goes well in the telephone interview, we arrange a time to meet at the local pet store. Gaiser Pets. We however are do not work there. We just go their for adoptions at our arranged times.
Once there, a volunteer will meet with you, answer all your questions, go over our contract and policies. If both parties agree and you wish to adopt, you will fill out the contract. Be given copies of contract and vaccination record and you will recieve all information needed on your new family member.
We do ask for updates. We thoroughly enjoy getting updates, seeing our rescues and keeping in contact. We have some we have heard from for years. It is great! Our email is Happypawsrescue@comcast.net
Our adoption fees include their spay, or neuter, 3 rounds of puppy shots and their rabies.The dogs have also been dewormed and deflead. We also offer a free local veterinarian office visit. This is if the puppy is under 4 mos of age.

This statistic is scary to me. Dogs/cats are just being passed around like it doesn't matter.
Spaying and neutering is key! This stops overpopulation, puppy mills, and lets dogs live the lives they were intended for. To be happy, healthy and loved. Not bred over and over until they have nothing left to give or beat, neglected and broken down.
In 6 years one unspayed female and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs.
The cost of having a pregnant female is much highter than the cost of spaying
Each day 10,000 humans are borin in the USA and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens. As long as this birth rate exists, there will never be enough homes.
Lack of education and its benefits is a problem. I always here one litter, its a purebred etc. Well 30% of pets surrendered to shelters are purebreds.
It does not matter what the breed is, there is not one good reason to breed except for extinction. Obviously this is no where near happening in our lifetime so why destroy lives. All it takes is one person to do the wrong thing and it destroys so many lives.
I hear so many times... I am giving them to family, friends. But what happens when they breed just like you did and give them to other people. You don't have control past the point you handing them off. All it takes is one wrong move. You will not know until it is too late! It is just not worth it. No money is worth destroying lives and giving them a miserable existance.
I have seen countless times dogs that do not know how to walk, that were kept in small spaces, soars that look like tumors from being in one spot on a hard ground. Dogs bred and thrown away once they don't produce enough offspring, decayed teeth, dying of breast cancer which can be avoided if the dog were spayed in time, dogs so unsocialized that pee and poop when touched, wild dogs, neglected. Kept in horrindous conditions.
There is not one benefit from being in heat to having a litter!! or not neutering a male.
We eliminate 99 % of the breast cancers and other cancers in females if we spay before their first heat. I have watched a dog die of this and it cheats them out of years of life, not to mention how unfair your choices effects and takes away years of theirs.
They live longer, healthier, happier lives.
Their is no benefit from a heat cycle. It is messy and gross.
Males lose their urge to roam, hike their leg.
Reduce the risks of testicular and other cancers. Dogs have no benefits to waiting until they are a year or older. It does not give them a drive, does not make them more muscular, bigger. Vets who give this advice are old time vets behind in times. No disrespect intended.
They do NOT care! Most dogs/puppies are fine hours later. Within a day or two you see no signs of any trauma, anything.
They are perfectly fine and will live longer happier lives. And you did a good thing. You saved so many lives today just by spaying or neutering your pet! Yeah!!!!!!
