Rescue FAQs

Our goal is to help basset hounds and basest hound mixes who are homeless and need human love and kindness. Too many wonderful animals are abandoned and subsequently euthanized in shelters across the counry every year; AEBS strives to save as many of these "furbabies" as we can and get them to loving "furever" homes. Our bassets come from shelters, owner relinquishments and the occasional breeder auctions from around the country. When the economy is bad, many animals suffer; we are trying to relieve some of that pain. We do this by relying on foster homes and other volunteers to help us save these beautiful, loving hounds. Thank you for visiting us! Come back soon!
All Ears Basset Sanctuary is a basset rescue and sanctuary; we are a licensed 501c3 organization and registered for operation in the states of New Mexico and Colorado. We work with rescues and potential adopters in many states to rescue as many basset hounds and basset hound mixes as possible and match them with loving, forever homes. We adopt in all cities in New Mexico & Colorado and will adopt to out-of-state homes on a case-by-case basis.

Additional adoption info

A successful adoption depends on both the selection of the right basset for your household, an understanding of the basset's needs and psychology, and knowledge about hound care. We cannot stress enough that hounds are not like other dogs! They are completely nose-oriented, tough-minded, independent and, in short, live in their own world. If you like the idea of a highly intelligent, strong-willed, tough, independent dog that's not all that eager to please but is loving, loyal and fun, then read on!

There are 5 steps to adopting a dog from All Ears Basset Sanctuary:

1.Complete the AEBS online adoption application at http://www.allearsbassetsanctuary.org/about-adoption/adoption-application.html
2.Speak with an All Ears representative to discuss your completed application and assess which dogs might be most appropriate for your home and lifestyle. An AEBS representative will contact you following the receipt of your completed application.
3.Have a home visit completed by an All Ears representative.
4.Schedule an appointment to meet your dog(s) of interest.
5.Begin a life-long love affair with your new best friend!
