NYS Registered Shelter/Rescue RR058 Friends of the Orleans County Animal Shelter, Inc. is a volunteer driven, 501(c)(3) non- profit organization dedicated primarily, but not limited to, the facilitation of placement of animals housed at the Orleans County Animal Shelter. We are dedicated to the welfare of pets from the Orleans County Animal Shelter. Our mission and purpose is: • To promote animal welfare through assistance in the operation of a public animal shelter. • To assist in providing temporary care and housing for the lost, unwanted, abused, stray and abandoned animals. • To assist in the return of lost animals to their homes. • To seek suitable homes for homeless animals. • To provide emergency care for animals when possible. • To promote spaying and neutering as a means of animal population control. • To educate the public about owner responsibility and humane treatment of animals. • To apply for grants to aid in the care of the animals at the animal shelter. • To assist and promote various fundraising activities to carry out the mission of the Shelter.
The Animal Control Officer services Orleans County Residents only for surrenders, but we adopt our pets to other counties and states. This site is for our adoptable pets only and please visit us when we are open or call or e-mail. if you wish to see any of our dogs or cats who are looking for their forever home!! Additional adoption info

For adoption process information, please contact the shelter directly. Applications are taken on all pets available for adoption. Adopters must be at least 21 years of age.

We have some great dogs and cats for adoption and we hope you can give one of them a forever loving home. Please note that all of our Dogs are vaccinated against rabies (3 months old or older) and also the distemper/parvo combo vaccine while they are in our Shelter. Dogs are also heartworm combo tested, given monthly heartworm prevention and spayed/neutered if old enough. Cats also receive a rabies vaccine at 3 months of age; their distemper vaccine and are combo tested for feline leukemia. Also, all of our pets are microchipped.

We are unable to accept checks or credit cards and adoption payments must be in cash. Dog adoption fees are $175.00. If your new dog or puppy is not spayed/neutered, you will sign a spay/neuter agreement to have your dog or puppy spayed/neutered within 30 days of adoption or 6 months of age if a puppy, and you will receive a refund of $35.00 that you will include with your adoption fee for a total of $210.00. Cat and kitten adoption fees for spayed/neutered fur babies is $90.00. If the cat or kitten is not spayed or neutered, the adoption fee is $40.00. Donations are always welcome to allow us to rescue more!!

If adopting a cat or kitten from our Shelter, we ask that you please bring a carrier.
