Rescue FAQs

Connecticut Save-A-Pup was originally founded in 1991 to address the pet overpopulation in the City of Hartford Dog Pound. For many years, CT Save-A-Pup rescued dogs and puppies from the Hartford Pound that might otherwise be euthanized. In 2003, we expanded to rescuing dogs from other local pounds, as well as taking in owner surrenders. All dogs in our program have been examined for their disposition, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered prior to adoption.
We place dogs to loving homes throughout Connecticut and New England and occasionally other states as well.

Additional adoption info

We have a 5 page application that allows us to decide the best homes for our rescue dogs. We don't adopt on a first come first serve basis and we like to meet the potential adopters and be sure everyone in the family is on board for adopting the pet. Our adoption process takes 7 to 10 days. Our adoption fee is $200.00 (cash or check) and all our dogs are spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations.

We gladly accept monetary donations in the form of check or cash, towels, blankets, pillows, beds and toys. Our rescue dogs eat a special diet so we don't accept food and we accept treats made in the USA
