Shelter FAQs

The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department’s mission is to protect and serve the pets and people of Albuquerque by providing Caregiving, Awareness, Resources, Enforcement and Service excellence. AWD is always in need of foster homes for our pets who need time to grow, recovery from illness or injury or in need of a break from the shelter. Foster homes increase our capacity to provide services to homeless pets in our community. If you would like to donate toys, towels and milk-bones are always in need. Volunteer opportunities are also available at our shelters.

These adoptable animals are currently in our foster care system. They are not currently at either of our AWD shelters. If you wish to inquire about any of the foster animals, have questions or would like to be set up for a online Zoom meet-and-greet appointment please email awdfoster@cabq.gov Information about adopting may be found at cabq.gov/pets/adoptions/adoption-information.
