Rescue FAQs

We are in Rochester, NY and adopt to homes in the Rochester NY area. Foster home based, no shelter.

Our mission is helping dogs that are homeless, in public shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia, or given up by owners due to inability to properly care for the animal.

All dogs brought into our rescue are placed in an approved foster home where they will receive love, training and any needed veterinary care. We remain committed to all dogs in our rescue after they are adopted by requiring that, should it not work out, dogs are returned to us and never given away or placed in a shelter. We strive for the right home for each of our dogs through meetings, reference checks and home visits. New 2 U Rescues mission is homes that will be for the life of every dog adopted out.
We also endeavor to work with other shelters, rescues, and humane organizations to help create a safe and caring network to help dogs in need. Our group is committed to the care of dogs in our rescue and community. We help through our foster program and education of those we work with or come into contact with.

We are a 501c3 registered rescue and Registered with NY State Dept of Agriculture Reg No. 33

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    1. Please note we do not adopt to homes that use ecollars or dogs/cats over 8mths of age that are not spayed/neutered.
  2. Interview
    1. Foster contacts you to discuss pet and ensure might be a match for your home. If yes, vet reference is checked and meeting scheduled.
  3. Meet the Pet
    1. Meeting may be at public location, foster home, or your home. All members of family must be present.
  4. Home Check
    1. Dog is brought to your home to ensure safe environment and to meet other pets in home. Comfort of adoptable dog is determined.
  5. Approve Application
    1. If all prior steps appear to be a match. Pls note, being approved for one dog does not mean all. Each dog is individual with dif needs.
  6. Sign Adoption Contract
  7. Pay Fee
    1. Dog is now yours. Congratulations! This process can take as little as a few days to longer. Depends on availability of foster and adopter

Additional adoption info

All our dogs are vetted prior to finalizing any adoption and we try to ensure the health of all dogs prior to placement. We do require reference check and home visit prior to any adoption to ensure the best match possible. Larger breed, high energy dogs will require a fenced in yard but that is not always required for our smaller dogs. We place dogs in the greater Rochester, NY area only at this time.
Please note, we do not accept invisible fencing and if fence is required it must be a physical fence. We also require all dogs over 8 mths of age to be spayed or neutered prior to considering any application.

Vetting includes (but is not limited to):
spay/neuter
microchip
age appropriate vaccinations
health exam
Heartworm test if age appropriate
