Rescue FAQs

In August 2014, Bluebelle's Rescue formed to counteract the ever-growing stray dog population. We formed out of the pure desire to help animals in need. We are a board of 5 women who all have full time jobs and lives, but we work diligently and endlessly to save as many dogs as we can. We first began by developing feeding routes out in the neighborhoods, which are most commonly populated with stray dogs. Our objective is to have a volunteer drive the route daily feeding the dogs in which we cannot pick up and bring into the rescue at that time. Due to the massive amount of stray dogs in this area, we prioritize whom we pick up by their medical status; meaning we primarily pick up the severely sick, pregnant, young, or suffering. We have taken in dogs that have unfortunately been hit by a car, have suffered parvovirus or distemper, were the product of severe neglect, unwanted litters and mothers left to die, and dogs so broken and lost that some would consider being "feral". Once we pull a dog off the street, the dog is immediately seen by our veterinarian and then placed into an adequate foster home until ready to be adopted.
We are a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, foster-based rescue organization focused on feeding, medicating, and finding fosters and adopters for some of the 1.2 million stray dogs in Houston. We focus on the street dogs in an area in southeast Houston and feed anywhere from 40-60+ dogs every time we go out. Our organization works diligently to educate the public to ultimately find a solution and to prevent this epidemic from expanding. We rely solely on the donations made by generous followers and volunteers and we simply could not do it without them.

Additional adoption info

Our Adoption Process is as follows:

1. You will first submit an application, we will respond to your email with a confirmation that we received the your application.
2. We will process you application. This includes calling your vet reference as well as personal references.
3. If all checks out, we will schedule a meet and greet and a home check.
4. If the meet and greet goes well, as does the home check, you will then begin your two week trial period.
5. At the end of the two weeks we will finalize the adoption.

The adopter will be required to pay an adoption fee ($200 for puppies under the age of 6 months old who have not been spayed/neutered with a $50 refund once the rescue is provided proof of spay/neuter at 6 months of age, and $150 for dogs older than 6 months of age who have been spayed/neutered) and sign an adoption contract. If the adopter is adopting a puppy under the age of 6 months who has not been spayed/neutered they will be required to sign a spay/neuter contract stating that they are required to provide the rescue with documentation of alteration before the puppy turns 6 months of age.
