Rescue FAQs

We are a group of dedicated volunteers who advocate for senior dogs in need. We help find foster and forever homes for old dogs who end up in Maine shelters or have to be given up for any number of reasons.
We advocate for homeless senior dogs throughout the state of Maine.

Additional adoption info

● Interested parties complete and submit ODND's adoption survey.
● An ODND case manager reviews the survey to see if the dog and the adopter are a good fit.
● A meet-and-greet with the dog and adopter is arranged.
● An ODND case manager visits the adopter’s home.
● An ODND volunteer contacts the adopter's veterinary reference to make sure that the adopter has a good record of caring for their companion animals.
● When the case manager approves the adoption, the adopter finalizes the adoption directly with the dog’s shelter. The shelter may require that the adopter signs an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee to help cover some of the expenses incurred in rescuing the dog, such as veterinary care and vaccinations.

It may take a few days to get through this process, so we hope you'll be patient and know that ODND dogs are worth the wait!
