My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Lovely Polo reminds us of a canine character out of Louis XIV's lavish court. At just a year and a half, this glamorous pup was found meandering through the spoils of urban garbage, searching for his next meal. Animal Control officers transported Polo to the pound without much fuss.

Polo actually seemed grateful for the police escort and regular meals, so he did not complain much about the accommodations. He proved himself to be a good natured guest, and became an instant hit with the shelter and volunteer staff. He received top behavior ratings, and was deemed a suitable choice for average dog owners.

Shelter staff has pegged Polo as a Lab/Cocker Spaniel mix, but after some research, we think that Polo is a fusion of American Water Spaniel and Golden Retriever. Polo has the physique and dark brown coloring of the Water Spaniel, but his glorious, wavy coat and triangular floppy ears suggest the shape and texture of the Golden Retriever. At fifty-two pounds, he is at full, healthy weight, and is lean and athletic.

Polo has a lot of puppy mojo, and would make a superb family dog, provided everyone can get on the same page for leadership and obedience work. Busy families often have bustling priorities, so we would like to avoid folks with babies and toddlers who might not have the time to focus on Polo. He is at a critical point in his training, and we'd like to see Polo's adopters develop his tremendous potential.

Polo would do well with older kids, and would be a lot of fun to include on family camping trips or outings. As a Water Spaniel/Retriever, a two time Gun Dog, Polo was born to be outdoors romping through nature's flora and fauna. He would also be a natural hiking, running or walking companion to the active single or couple who have time to troubleshoot puppy behaviors. Polo could easily join a multi-dog home with other playful dogs, and he may be mild mannered enough to coexist with cats, if introduced properly.

Polo has excellent house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should be prepared to reinforce good potty habits from the beginning, and forgive the occasional accident of a recently neutered male dog.

Polo is in excellent health and has been neutered. He is vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. He is microchipped and dewormed. He has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
