My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our robust beauty, Ginger, is a real gem. She is so full of vitality and life that she brightens a room with her entrance. Ginger came to us from a large urban animal control facility where she spent some time after having been picked up as a homeless stray. Ginger made an immediate favorable impression on shelter staff, and proved herself to be a self-possessed, confident girl, with the chutzpah to flounce through the harrowing shelter process that crushes the spirits of most dogs.

Ginger received the best possible behavior evaluations, and was beloved by staff and volunteers. And yet, we found her on the daily Euthanasia list while we were tracking down another dog. Only 2 years old, this highly lovable and adoptable beauty was at death's door. Hard to believe!

We invited Ginger to join our rescue so that we could find her forever home. Our shelter contacts peg Ginger as a mix of Golden Retriever and German Shepherd. Her luscious golden coat and coloring suggests the Retriever DNA, yet her lanky frame seems Shepherd-like, along with her stubborn half floppy ears that try so hard to stand straight up!

Ginger has an amazing temperament, and can join just about any home. She is a gentle, quiet girl who seems to stay calm in the eye of a storm. She will shy away from the heart of the action, and stand quietly on the sidelines awaiting her turn for hugs and treats. Ginger is good with other dogs, and could easily join a multi-dog home, with other medium energy dogs. We have not had Ginger around cats, but most likely, she would get along well with appropriate, patient introductions.

Ginger is friendly to all once she has been introduced properly. She could easily join an active family with older kids, or a moderately active single or couple who seek a devoted companion. Ginger is a medium energy dog, with a puppyish sweetness, who needs a couple of brisk leash walks each day to be happy.

Ginger has not had much obedience work, but is extremely eager to please, so her training process will be a pleasure. She has begun to grasp the obedience basics we have introduced in foster care, and adopters should be willing to continue her training and develop her full potential.

Ginger has great house manners and is crate trained and housetrained. Adopters should have appropriate expectations of a rescue dog, who has been through as much as Ginger has, and be willing to fine-tune and reinforce good potty habits.

Ginger will be spayed next week, and already has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and has been tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. If you are interested in Ginger, please email Denise@Eskiesonline.com or call 720-903-0636.
