My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When our Farfel's rescuer in Oklahoma was contacted by Paul's Valley Animal Shelter about Ash..she immediately prepared to take the ride to the shelter. After all...when a shelter calls saying they have a dog that is so sweet and wonderful that they just can't bring themselves to euthanize him...we respond. When Sue walked into the dismal shelter light, she could just barely see Ash peering up at her from his tiny cage. He was so matted and filthy from his too-long stay at the shelter that it was difficult to see that under the dirt was a gorgeous poodle mix (sorry about the shelter photo..Ash has been groomed and is now stunning..we'll follow up with an updated photo). As he was led into the light, his pleading eyes looked into Sue's..and the deal was sealed. Ash pranced with joy on his way to the car...already bonded with Sue after a thorough petting session. It was then obvious that Ash was a strikingly beautiful apricot poodle mix...only about 3 old & 18 lbs...and most likely had never been bathed or brushed in his life. It also became clear that Ash was by nature a happy and friendly guy. He fell in love with Sue by the time they arrived at her house...the process was a bit slower with her husband. Ash seemed fearful of Jon...but through quiet perseverance and many treats and belly rubs later...Jon became one of Ash's best friends. Both Jon and Sue understood not to push themselves on Ash but to let him gain confidence in his own time...he grew to love and trust Sue and Jon as well as their grandkids and relatives who frequently visited. Ash loves long walks and enjoyed his time with kind and active family members. His foster mom described Ash as a guy who just needed time and understanding to bond and feel comfortable...but when he does..he's an all time snuggler and couldn't be sweeter. He's clearly more comfortable with females but always comes to love males who are patient and kind. Ash also is described as having great house skills. He has been housebroken yet may have to be supervised until he gets used to his surroundings.. and is very respectful of personal possessions in his foster home. We're searching for a kind and very loving family for this awesome companion. They will understand that rehoming is difficult and takes time for a pup to be completely comfortable and confident. We'd also like a home where a member(s) of the family enjoy spending time with a furry best friend and would choose to socialize Ash to be able to accompany them in their life. At the end of the day, Ash is a world class snuggler and would love nothing more than to show his devotion everyday to his forever family. Ash is a non-shedding guy and considered to be the most hypoallergenic breed...he'll therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat cotton-soft and matt-free. Ash is being fostered in Boulder, CO. We're currently accepting applications and setting up Meet & Greets for this exceptional and loving companion.
