The very first thing that Phoenix the Schnauzer/Poodle (Schnoodle) wants to make clear is that he's a LOVE! In this sad shelter photo, you're not aware of the striking golds and brindle that runs through his silky coat - with grooming, care and great nutrition, Phoenix's coat will show its gorgeous colors. We've no doubt that he will have to be shaved to the skin to allow his healthy and silky-soft coat to come in. Everything is new to Phoenix... his adorable little nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch - and then before you know it, Phoenix is in your lap. He's so happy there because his human relationships are so important to him. We have to remember that Phoenix comes from a very tough and challenging shelter. As a result of unkind handling and harsh conditions, Phoenix is shy about being picked up. Once he's assured that all is well, he'll snuggle close for love and support. This 3.5 - 4 year old, 8 lb Schnoodle truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. Phoenix is such a people dog...he likes older kids but they definitely must be very gentle and handle him kindly. Phoenix can become overwhelmed by rowdiness...therefore a family with kids under 12 will not be considered. We envision Phoenix with a retired couple or individual who want an adorable and sweet dog as a family member and companion. He would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his people....he's quiet and mellow enough to spend his afternoon snoozing on the couch or would be just as happy to go for a stroll along gorgeous Colorado paths....just as long as he's with his person. He would also be a perfect office dog in a dog-friendly workplace....he would be so well behaved and respectful. Phoenix can have moments of insecurity from the turmoil that has been in his life...a guardian who is present and full of good intention can readily get this great guy past these feelings and let him know he is loved and won't be abandoned. Phoenix as a Schnoodle is considered to be good with people who have allergic concerns...he will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy and matt-free.
Phoenix will be arriving on transport in Denver on 3/20. We are currently accepting applications for this sweet and exceptional companion.
