My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Evan has had an incredible bittersweet journey. He was out of time in a Kansas shelter until recognized by our rescuer for his great personality and her belief that, with training, Evan could become an exceptional companion. This was his ticket on a transport that would take him to a new life in Colorado.
Even was lucky enough to get adopted very shortly after his arrival in Boulder. His new mom was the perfect match! She was a savvy and extremely loving dog-mom. She had volunteered her time to training challenging dogs at Boulder Humane Society so they could go on and get adopted. It immediately became evident that Evan had found his perfect match. When they visited Farfel's just a few months ago, Evan was amazing! He had acquired advanced training skills through his mom and was showing off his amazing abilities.
We are all very sad that Evan's mom passed away several days ago and the family is choosing to rehome this great companion. Evan needs a family that will be sensitive to his grieving...and give him the love he desperately needs while continuing the boundaries of his education. Dogs are very lucky to live in the moment with the ability to embrace new lives. Evan is ready for a family that shows him the same love and respect that he came to know after a wonderful year or 2 with his mom.
We envision Evan in a home with dog-savvy retirees or a family with gentle kids 12+ who absolutely love dogs. Evan is also great in his interaction with other dogs while not requiring their companionship to be happy. He kind of keeps to himself in a very peaceful way...concentrating much more on his people. Therefore being out and about with Evan is a positive and stress-free experience. He has been on errands in urban areas. He came to visit us at Farfel's and was perfect on his leash and appropriately friendly while being intent on the cues of his mom...couldn't ask for better behavior!
Evan hikes joyfully where there are other dogs with their people and in all cases, Evan is friendly (yet not over the top) and very appropriate. He is one of those personalities that is extremely even and calm while keeping a bit of distance. He does warm up with kindness and time spent... and becomes a best friend that gives 100% to his relationships.
Evan, at 18 lbs and about 3 years old is at a great age. He's young enough to have energy and many years ahead since small, mixed breed Terriers have the potential to live to 17+ years. He's old enough, however, to have his adult skills perfected. He can be counted on to be very respectful in the home as well as in the community.
Evan would enjoy fun days of walking trails or neighborhoods, snowshoeing or any fun activity that includes the people he loves. An active retired family that enjoys dog-friendly activities with their well-behaved pup would be great for Evan. It would not only satisfy his exercise and social needs, it would mean he's spending lots of time with his humans and that would make Evan so very happy!
This love bug has a wiry coat that gives him that adorable Benji look. We've included a baby picture from his shelter file as well as current photo of Evan to give a sense of his history. Evan is a non-shedding guy that will require periodic baths, brushing (yet no costly hair styling) and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy and matt-free. Evan is not suggested for those with severe allergy concerns.

Evan is being fostered in Denver. We're currently searching for a committed and loving family who will adore this dog who has had such hard luck in life.. while continuing his already-great training skills.
