My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shay is a gorgeous chocolate-colored Shih Tzu that lost his way on the scary Houston streets. Before he knew it, he was on death row in an overcrowded shelter with no options left. Shay had clearly been neglected to the point of abuse. His cottony-soft Shih Tzu coat was ignored for what appears to be his entire 8-month life. The matts were so thick that this poor baby could barely walk. We wonder if Shay just wandered away...our guess is that he had been part of an opportunistic puppy mill since these beautiful Shih Tzus puppies are so desirable. There was no question that we would step up and save Shay's life as we felt confident that we could find him a committed family that would treat him with the love and respect he deserves. Shay needs the initially shy and just a bit frightened part of his nature to be honored.. within a short time, and once he feels safe, he's a lap dog extraordinaire. We therefore feel that a retired couple or individual would be perfect for this puppy who's just learning that the world has wonderful possibilities. Shay would be overjoyed with the gentle love and attention that he's been searching for for his entire short life. Shay, at 8 months old and right around 11 pounds, would be overjoyed with the companionship of a family that included him in their activities. Being so young, Shay is a blank slate who will learn what he is taught - if socialized and included, he will have a positive and engaging attitude toward people. We are certain that as Shay grows more comfortable in a home, his playful puppy nature will emerge He would be a wonderful companion and dedicated best friend to a family that chooses to spend lots of fun time with this devoted guy. He's the perfect portable size for the office, the park or just being a partner in the car while running errands. And then at day's end, Shay will cuddle up close and just enjoy the quiet company of his family.
Shay is a non-shedding pup and will therefore require great nutrition and periodic grooming to keep his cottony-soft coat healthy and matt-free.

Shay will be transported to Colorado on 6/20. Applications are currently being accepted for this exceptional and snuggly companion.
