My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Schnauzer/Border Terrier is a favorite of the mixed breed dogs. We all seem to love the combination of the outgoing nature and fun personality of the Schnauzer combined with the smart and intuitive nature of the Border Terrier. Lainie appears to be a perfect combo of these 2 popular breeds. Her gorgeous light golden coat lights up her adorable face and her bright and hopeful eyes. Lainie is so lucky to have survived...she was found wandering sadly through a Houston neighborhood and a compassionate passerby thought she was doing the right thing in bringing Lainie to a shelter. She had no idea that the shelter she chose was a very high-kill facility. At just about 6 months old and 14 lbs, Lainie shines with an engaging and incredibly sweet disposition. She is an active girl whose tail never, stops wagging after she feels safe and bonded. Lainie loves to be included in the fun and would love nothing more than a hike or a neighborhood stroll with her family. She really enjoys gentle, respectful kids 10+ and would be a participant in outdoor games in the yard or a walk to the park. She also likes the company of other gentle, like-sized dogs and would always enjoy a game or a shared walk. Somewhere along the line, we think that Lainie was given love and respect..probably because she's so capable of returning warmth and kindness once she feels safe. Betty is great to take along anywhere there are groups of dog-loving people. She's a bit shy but always warms up with sweetness and warm hugs.
We feel that Lainie would do well in any home that offered her love, time (long hours left alone at home wouldn't be in the best interest of this social and sensitive pup), appropriate exercise/ mental stimulation and positive reinforcement training to make her the best dog she can possibly be.
Lainie appears to be a non-shedding girl although it's a bit hard to tell because her coat is so matted and brittle due to poor nutrition and lack of care. Once she is on a nutritious diet for a time with periodic grooming, Lainie's coat will grow out thick and shining with good health. She will also gain the weight she needs to be a healthy and vibrant puppy.
Lainie's foster mom has said that Lainie is playful and loves fun. She's very good with people and when she's ready, she'll jump on your lap and lick your face. Lainie also loves taking walks, but still needs a bit more practice to walk calmly without pulling on the leash.
At first Lainie was drawn to digging under our fence to explore the front yard. She quickly, however, settled into our pack and became less concerned with digging out and much more focused on playing with our other dog and getting belly rubs and kisses from us.
I fell in love with Lainie the second I met her and felt her goodness. I loved her enough to strongly consider adding a 4th dog to our pack..but these thoughts weren't shared by my husband I hope she is adopted into a family that already has a gentle dog or two. I think she would love that.

Lainie will arrive on transport in Colorado on 10/3. If interested in this shy and very sweet girl, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
