My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Robby, a mixed breed (most likely Pug and Chihuahua) who is somewhere around the age of 6-8 years old. Robby was found as a stray in southern Indiana and no owner claimed him. He was covered in fleas and obviously suffering from flea dermatitis which left him near bald and itchy. Besides his poor coat, Robby clearly needed to see a vet to have his teeth examined. They were coated in plaque, had a foul odor, and needed to be removed. Robby's luck was not getting better because lots of strays had been picked up that week and the animal control facility was beyond at it's maximum which means that dogs get put on 'the list'. It isn't the sort of list Santa looks at; it is a list of the oldest dogs, the most costly dogs, the dogs who are not considered adoptable. Robby was on the list with his age and vetting expenses counting against him. His sweet demeanor and ability to get along with all the dogs made a volunteer at the animal control facility reach out to rescue.

Robby was tested for heartworm to see if he could be a candidate for rescue, and his luck began to change when he came up heartworm negative. Robby was taken to a vet for a dental and neutered at the same time. He was soon loaded up with a few other dozen dogs and on his way to become a foster dog with Rover Rescue. Robby was brought up to date on all of his vaccinations including bordetella and was given a dewormer before being sent to his foster home.

Robby arrived to a foster home that was buzzing with activity. There were dogs of all sizes and ages who greeted him and he patiently let each one sniff to their heart's content. He quietly waited and then began exploring the yard. He made no attempt to leave the yard and was quite happy hanging out with other friendly dogs. He has continued to be non-dominant with other dogs in all aspects. He enjoys the company of his fellow foster sister, Roxy, who is also available for adoption and the two of them often nap together. They were both so well behaved that it took the husband in the home a full day before he realized another red head had been added to the pack! The first few days found Robby devouring the always full food dishes. He soon realized that the food would always be there and slowed his eating down to a normal amount. Despite his dental, he went almost immediately back to dry dog food and is grateful for whatever he is given. When the pack is eating, Robby always lets the other dogs go first and only when every other dog has finished will he approach the dish. Robby is eating a grain-free Salmon and Sweet Potato formula and after a week, there was already a noticeable difference in the quality of his coat. Hair has begun to regrow and the red itchiness is being replaced by a healthier looking skin.

Robby's first night in the home was like he had been here his whole life. There are just as many children in his foster home as there are dogs and Robby does wonderful with all of them. Due to Rover Rescue policy, Robby cannot be adopted to a home with children under the age of 5 years. While he is no harm to them, it would be too tempting for a small child to want to try to pick up Robby and possibly cause him injury. The older girls take him on a walk which he has shown to do with no problem. He easily jumps up on the couch when invited and shows no physical ailments. He will snuggle any chance he gets and loves to see a human with a book in her hand. He knows this means the person is going to sit and he takes full advantage of snuggle time! It was heartbreaking to watch him on the first night settle himself on a grocery sack that had fallen to the floor. He seemed so grateful for even that! His foster mom has shown him how much nicer life gets with dog beds and blankets. His true dachshund side comes out and he burrows deep into the pile with sometimes only a nose exposed. His foster home has learned that a blanket on the floor has a high potential of containing one Robby the Dog!!

Robby's best trait by far is that he shows no little dog issues such as excessive barking. He will bark when he is overly nervous such as when the big dogs are getting too wild in their play. He is easy to quiet down and would not be considered a nuisance barker. Despite living in a home that has seen hundreds of male dogs, Robby has NEVER marked - not even in the 2 spots that almost every male dog insists on hitting. He is such a gentleman - calm and gentle would describe him best. His pug side is clear with those rolls and rolls of fur and his forever faithful personality. Robby also lives with a cat and shows no problems with the cat either. The two of them will easily share a dog bed!

Robby is up to date on vaccinations including rabies. He has been neutered and given a dental. Robby is housetrained and has no issues going outside as long as he is not alone. As long as a person or another dog is with him, he happily trots outside to do his business despite the cold autumn nights. He was obviously not a chewer so he has been granted to be loose in the master bedroom while his family is gone. Over time, his space to be allowed free will increase as he continues to show he can be trusted. Robby's adoption fee is $200 which includes a free microchipping at a Rover Rescue veterinarian. If you are interested in Robby becoming a part of your family, please call his foster mom, Mary, at 815-278-2102. Robby is being fostered in the Aurora area. His foster mom will have some questions for you as well as answer any questions you may have about this little gentleman.
