My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our lovely girl, Gentle, is a sweet soul, who longs for the strong leadership of a seasoned dog lover. She came to us recently from an urban pound, where she wound up on the euthanasia list at the age of just one and half, abandoned to her fate by lackluster owners.

Shelter staff pegged Gentle as a Bullmastiff, one of the most powerful, yet gentle of the Bully breeds. As a stalwart, silent guardian of home and family, the Bullmastiff requires a knowlegable, firm hand and ongoing leadership and training. Gentle's training was neglected by a clueless dog owner, who splurged on a pup, and then became flummoxed when their puppy grew up!

Gentle has the haunted look of a dog who doesn't understand her place in the world, or what is expected of her. Her luminous light hazel eyes reveal an uneasy, reticent vibe that melts away quickly in the hands of a confident handler and pack leader. Once she feels secure, Gentle blossoms like a beautiful orchid. Her
exhuberant kisses are simply spectacular!

Gentle would be the ideal companion for an active single or couple, who enjoy the process of rehabilitating a dog's wounded spirit. Gentle needs a firm, loving owner to help build her confidence through exercise and positive rewards obedience work. We have begun to teach the basics of Canine Good Citizenship, and Gentle has impressed us as a quick study. She has amazing potential, and so much love to give.

We'd describe Gentle as an energetic girl, who needs a good deal of exercise each day to maintain an even keel. Weighing 60 pounds, she is a strong, muscular dog who easily could overpower small children or cats. She would do best in an adult home, or a family with older children who are all on the same page about follow through on obedience work. Gentle could join a multi-dog home, if the other dogs are calm and well trained. We think over the top energy dogs would spook her.

Gentle is in excellent health, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
