My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our studly Rocco is a whole lotta Min Pin! Actually, we believe he is a coveted mix of Miniature Pinscher and Pug, that has fast gained popularity amongst designer breed enthusiasts. Although not recognized by the national breed clubs, the "Muggin," or "Carlin Pinscher" as they are called in the Rooty Tooty Snooty circles, have developed quite a fan base.

Rocco was recently surrendered to a high kill Animal Control facility, where he was quickly greenlighted for euthanasia after he caught the complimentary shelter Kennel Cough. Owner surrendered dogs don't have much time before they become disposable, since there is no need to track missing owners. This mandated legal process buys valuable time for the many city strays to attract rescues. It was Rocco's bum luck to wind up at risk, despite good behavior evaluations. He is just ten months old!

At 17 pounds, Rocco is a sturdy, muscular dog, with a thick set frame that favors his Pug roots. His short coat is a light fawn color, and requires minimal grooming. Rocco's facial features seem broad and slightly foreshortened, a la Pug, but the Min Pin DNA has added a certain grace and elegance to his profile. He is truly a striking fellow and has the presence of a much larger dog.

Rocco was a staff and volunteer favorite. He is full of personality and is brimming with confidence. He is a high energy dog who requires a good deal of exercise and focussed playtime to work off his puppy mojo. Still a youngster, Rocco is at an impressionable age; it is imperative that his adopter step up and provide stability and leadership.

Rocco is a friendly boy, warms quickly to strangers, and bonds like glue to his loved ones. He would be an ideal choice for an active dog savvy single or couple, with solid dog handling skills, and some experience in obedience. He could easily join a multi-dog home, but may be too intense for cats. Rocco would thrive in a busy family with older kids, if everyone is willing to participate in his much needed exercise and training regimen. Rocco would overwhelm toddlers, but he would do his best to tire out older kids!

Rocco has not had much emphasis placed on his obedience work up until now. He is behind the learning curve on his commands, so we have started him off in puppy kindergarten. He is an eager student and loves to work for both treats and praise. A natural for positive rewards and leadership training, Rocco has demonstrated fantastic potential. He has the temperament and intelligence to go all the way to reach his Canine Good Citizenship certification.

Rocco is in excellent health and has just been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza), and has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed and microchipped.
