My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Little Forest is chock full of that "je ne sais quois" that attracts so many dog lovers to the Terrier breeds. There is a joyous, tenacious intensity infused into these spirited little dogs, that draws devotees of all ages and walks of life.

Forest is a bright, perky little fella, who is full of the Terrier hijinks that are sure to please. He is a likely mix of the Yorkshire and Australian Terriers. Just 12 pounds, Forest has the look of a Yorkie, and the size of the Australian. His rough coat is black and tan, with minimal shedding. He is easy to groom with bath and brush every so often, and may need a professional touch up a couple times a year.

Forest came to us, just two years old, as an owner surrender to a large animal control facility, where his options were limited as soon as he caught the shelter kennel cough. He was quickly booted from the shelter adoption program and relegated to the euthanasia list. We couldn't help but invite this impossibly cute little guy into our rescue!

Forest received good behavior evaluations at the shelter, but proved to be testy during his initial vet exam. He scored extremely well on his SAFER evaluation, and warmed up nicely to his foster folks as he settled into his new life. Forest is a medium to high energy dog, who needs a fair amount of exercise to avoid the pitfalls of boredom and frustration.

Forest would be the ideal companion to an active single or couple, whose lifestyle provides time for his exercise and training needs. He could also join a family with older kids, and would be a good addition to a multi-dog home, with one or two energetic, well trained dogs. He has not been around cats, but typically, terriers can be a bit too feisty for the feline temperment.

Forest has good house manners and is housetrained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot an occasional accident from a recently neutered male dog, as he adapts to his new potty schedule and routine. He has good car manners, and rides dutifully, as a superb sidekick!

Forest has not had a great deal of obedience training in his young life, but he has begun to grasp the basics. He walks well on lead, enjoys his work sessions and responds to both leadership and positive rewards training techniques. He impresses us as a smart cookie, who has the potential to achieve Canine Good Citizenship.

Forest is in good health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza), and has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed and microchipped.
