My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The very first thing our rescuer noticed about Casey were her gorgeous, expressive eyes in the dim high-kill shelter light. She stared at Casey for a bit and saw all the wonderful possibilities in this very beautiful Doxy/Schnauzer mix. This photo definitely doesn't do this exceptional pup justice! A spa day is in order - underneath the shelter dust is a truly beautiful chestnut-colored Dachshund mix.
Casey immediately makes it clear that she's a LOVE! Her adorable little nose sniffed shyly through the bars at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile. Casey was brought out of her cage.. and before you know it, she was in our rescuer's lap. With a hug, Casey breathed a huge sigh of relief and was clearly delighted with the turn her life had just taken! This 9 - 12 month old, approximately 10 lb cutie-pie truly lights up when she feels like she's done a good job... some serious belly rubs and kind words will send her over the moon. Casey wants desperately to be a family girl ...she would have the time of her life with a family with older kids (10+ would be great or an extremely gentle child a bit younger) and a friendly, like-sized canine best friend would be nice but not mandatory for Casey's happiness.
We also feel that Casey would do very well with dog-loving retirees who would enjoy a snuggly lap dog and who like to get out on walks to fulfill the exercise needs and mental stimulation necessary for any young dog
Casey loves people and shows her devotion in very positive ways. She'd love nothing more at the end of the day than to cuddle up and show her devotion. She's a great bed-sharer and would be ecstatic to spend the night helping to warm the bed.
Casey would be so excited to spend her days in the company of her favorite people. We wouldn't want her to be left alone for long hours waiting for her family to arrive home in the evening.. 5 or so hours at a time are fine..but an entire day is just too long for a sensitive pup.
We've requested that Casey be spayed prior to her arrival in Colorado. Since Kansas shelters have very limited access to vets and funding...this isn't always possible. Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Casey's spay and microchip (at one of our vets) if this doesn't occur in Kansas and immediately after her arrival
Casey appears to be a non-shedding girl with a coat that will need great nutrition, periodic baths and brushing to be shiny and healthy.
Casey will arrive on transport in Denver on 1/30. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
