My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What a happy and kind Schnauzer/Border Terrier mix Paxton is! At approximately 5 years old (shelter vet said 5.5 and local vet guessed 4ish..so we've compromised at 5) and 28 lbs. This is the prime of life for Paxton..old enough to be past puppyish behavior and have gathered wonderful wisdom and young enough to have many, many active years left. Paxton is the most loving meeter and greeter ever. We all know that when the wag starts at the tail and becomes a full-blown body wiggle...that Paxton is greeting either a beloved friend or anyone who has the potential to be a future playmate. Paxton is so warm and friendly (while being just a bit shy initially) that he always hopes that every pat and kind word will turn into a lifelong friend. Both humans and other dogs are drawn to Paxton for his positive attitude and sweet ways - no human friend can keep from petting Paxton..he's such a love! Sorry about the sad shelter photo of this gorgeous dog...we'll update with a picture that makes it clear how beautiful Paxton is and shows off his obvious love affair with life.
It is this love of life that motivates us to put Paxton through Heartworm treatment..his precious life deserves to be saved! Paxton has tested low HW+ and Farfel's has volunteered to save this very sweet companion. The heartworm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives. We have never lost a life (and we have treated many!) while implementing this process.
We are seeking a wonderful family to lovingly care for Paxton through this process as he becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails quiet time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this loving guy as he grows heartworm-free.

Paxton obviously stood out in a high-kill shelter of approximately 450 dogs (great temperaments and very cute looks always speak loudly for these special dogs) as Farfel's was contacted in a plea to save his life. The shelter personnel had the following to say about sweet Paxton:
Paxton came to BARC as an owner surrender (perhaps they didn't have the budget for successful heartworm treatment that is very effective yet very expensive) and is estimated to be about 5 years old. He has a very unusual demeanor for a shelter dog and we would love to know his story.
Paxton appears to have been the love of someone's life! He is far too sweet and affectionate to have ever had harsh treatment. We've also never seen Paxton have a fear of people like so many shelter dogs do.
We can all imagine Paxton being a Colorado dog. He's the perfect size to be a hiking companion and he would be overjoyed at the time spent outdoors with his favorite people. What can we say - Paxton is pretty irresistible with his so-cute Benji-like coat and a face that will simply melt your heart. Paxton walks well on a leash...no issues whatsoever. It seems like someone spent lots of time and kind energy training Paxton on his behavior.
Outdoors, Paxton seems really curious about everything going on around him but he exhibited very good behavior the entire time. He never had aggression. Paxton appears to be a virtually non-vocal dog...even with all the stimulation and other dogs, Paxton wasn't particularly barky or whiny.
One thing is certain...Paxton responds really well to soft and kind human touch. If you start to pet him and then suddenly stop, he's been known to move in closer and touch you ever so gently for more loving.. I did a couple of direct nose to nose touches with other dogs and Paxton had very little reaction. If any at all, he was completely positive and appropriate. This is an all-around really amazing dog. Paxton would be perfect for any family who will truly love him and commit to his welfare.
Other dogs seem to really enjoy Paxton's demeanor that is never aggressive...only fun-loving and pleasant. It's very typical for a Schnauzer/Border Terrier to be a great and devoted companion - they're known for their sweet and kind ways. Paxton would fit well into a family with older kids 10+(no tail pulling or riding please) and kind dogs...as long as the people loved and spent quality time with their pets.
Paxton (like all dogs) would benefit from positive reinforcement obedience classes that included the whole family - he is a super-smart pup who truly wants to please and kind training will give him the skills to be an excellent companion dog. These type of classes will also bring out the great qualities of this dog as well as creating a tightly-knit bonding with all family members.
Paxton appears to be either a non-shedding or very lightly shedding pup. He will therefore require periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition to keep his thick and beautiful coat healthy and soft.
Paxton will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 5/1/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this sweet and devoted companion, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
