My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our beautiful boy, Migo, is a mild mannered, yet energetic lad, who will delight seasoned dog owners with his outgoing personality. He came to us as a city stray, fresh from a bustling, high kill animal control facility, where he had awaited owners to find him, and bring him home.

Nobody claimed Migo, so he was placed in the shelter adoption program, after earning good behavior evaluations. He had become a staff and volunteer favorite, and we received several pleas to invite Migo into our rescue, after his luck ran out, and a case of shelter kennel cough put him on the path to euthanasia.

Migo has been a perfect gentlman as he has blended into our bustling foster home. Our shelter contacts have described Migo as a Rhodesian Ridgeback, mixed with a bit of German Shepherd. Migo has the massive head, floppy ears, tail and stance of the Ridgeback, with a characteristic splash of white on his chest, but we also see the black saddleback markings of the GSD. Migo has a strong, muscular physique, but he is petite for both breeds, weighing just over 60 pounds. He is a very maneagable size for large breed enthusiasts, who may not have the room for a truly massive dog.

Migo is a medium to high energy dog who loves the outdoors. He would do best in the active home of a single, couple or family with older kids, who are all on the same page about training an active, strong dog. He is a two and a half year old adult dog, but is slightly behind the learning curve in obedience work. Migo has been impressing us daily with his attentive performance during his Canine Good Citizen training. He is an excellent student, eager to please, and works for treats or praise. Adopters should have a blast as they continue their work with Migo, and he could well pass the Canine Good Citizenship exam in no time.

As an adult dog, Migo is past the puppy mayhem stage, and has developed respectful house manners. He may still jump up on guests in an enthusiastic welcome, but he is making progress on his "off" command. He is housetrained and crate trained, although, adopters will have to troubleshoot a few accidents as Migo transitions to a new potty routine. Rescue dogs typically lose some of their mojo as they move through the rescue process.

Migo is in excellent health, and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
