My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What a sweet and kind MaltiPoo (definitely favoring the Maltese) our Hope is! We're not sure what type of irresponsible situation Hope came from...but we do know that the Maltese/Poodle is a designer breed mix that is opportunistically being bred for their adorable looks, non-shedding cotton-soft coats and great temperaments. As a result of this human greed, these pups are being bred, sold for very high prices or dumped if they have any challenges. They're never given the benefit of heartworm preventative or medical care in these dismal living situations. Farfel's is very happy to rescue these dogs with great temperaments and find them nurturing and committed homes.

At about 4 years old (such a great age for the long-living MaltiPoo...old enough to be past babyish behavior and young enough to have many, many active years left to be a best friend.) and 9 lbs, Hope is portable enough to bring along to any dog-friendly location.

We all know Hope has arrived when we see the wag that starts at her tail and becomes a full-blown body wiggle...Hope is greeting either a friend or anyone who has the potential to be a future playmate. She may be initially cautious...assessing the situation to make sure all is OK. This makes perfect sense as she's been through time spent at a high-kill shelter waiting for her pending euthanasia date. When Hope was identified with a great temperament, Farfel's spoke up to bring her to safety (and a new forever family) in Colorado. Once she senses that all present are her friends, Hope is so warm and friendly that she hopes every pat and kind word will turn into a relationship. Both people and other dogs are drawn to sweet Hope for her kind attitude and playful ways. She is learning to play and enjoy life as a much-loved dog in her foster home. Hope seems to have a bit of leash experience as she's developing some further skills and seems to love the experience.

Farfel's Rescue has determined that Hope needs a mellow, very nurturing home where she is an active and important member of the family. Hope has suffered the injustice of being heartworm+ (this so easily could have been prevented by a responsible guardian with an inexpensive monthly preventative) and losing her vision...that also may have been treated effectively with medication. Through it all, Hope's positive attitude and love of life shines through...she's not about to give up her joy due to a few challenges. We feel that Hope would love to be with a retired family who has the time to spend and where there's a predictable environment. Hope would be overjoyed to spend parts of the day with her favorite people walking through the beauty of Colorado. Then at day's end, she's the ultimate snuggler and sleeps soundly through the night.

It is Hope's love affair with life and all the hardships that she's suffered along the way that motivated us to put her through Heartworm treatments..her precious life deserved to be saved! She has now completed her treatments and is resuming her life in all its fun and wonder.

Hope's blindness in no way influences her joy, play or housetraining. She's one of the group at her foster home as she slips in and out of the doggie door with ease...sharing a run and a roll. Hope can also be so silly and mischievous bringing huge smiles to all who have the good fortune to interact in play and then pet her cotton-soft belly as Hope enjoys a wonderful rub.

Hope is a non-shedding girl and considered to be one of the most hypoallergenic mixes available. She has a gorgeous coat and now that she has completely lost the matts and dirt of her shelter life (and has the benefit of great nutrition), it has become the cottony-soft and silky hair of her breed. Hope will always require periodic grooming and great nutrition (a supplement of Salmon Oil will help) to keep her hair healthy and matt-free.

Hope is being fostered in the Denver area. Meet and Greets are being set up and applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
