My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You know that we all have our favorites...maybe it's the pup that snuggles a bit closer (once he's bonded) and wags his entire body when he sees you simply because he can't contain how much he loves you. These descriptions would be Niles. His Oklahoma rescuers were set on saving this sweet boy's life.

Niles got caught in an extremely overcrowded rural shelter system that doesn't have the time or personnel to deal with the little guy in the dark cage... wagging his tail so hopefully. Nile's great temperament (sweet and engaging once he gets over his initial shyness ) and his very beautiful and expressive eyes that were so pleading were his ticket to a new life. Niles was vetted and brought to an Oklahoma foster home to get the attention that he always deserved and to work on his house skills. Niles was ready to for his trip to Colorado - a bit wiser and so excited about new possibilities

We feel like Niles never got the love and attention that we would want for any dog...he can initially be a bit fearful when new things are asked of him in new situations. Yet Niles has so much love and good will just waiting inside to shower on those that are kind to him...he's a true gift! We know that with patience and kindness (he's made huge strides already and is well-adjusted and very engaging in his foster home) that Niles will understand that he is loved and a very important and valuable guy.

Niles never hesitates to put his best self forward...that is an engaging personality (with a streak of independence..never needy) and enthusiasm for his favorite people or canine friends We can't forget that Niles at 8 months old and 11 lbs is still learning about the world. His behavior will not have the consistent maturity of a dog who's already learned the ropes. Niles is a puppy with a blank slate just waiting to be led. Being so young, Niles is open to new ideas with new ways of approaching challenges...he just needs a human who is clear and very kind with a young pup. Niles (like all dogs) would benefit from positive reinforcement group training classes so he can be given clear guidelines and fun socialization. It would also cement the relationship with his family so Niles will understand that he is loved and accepted.

Niles would be a great take-along pup for retirees who desire the loving and cuddly presence of a furry guy. They would need to provide him with the exercise and mental stimulation that every well-adjusted young pup should have. They couldn't, however, let his incredible cuteness get to them - they would need to provide leadership so this young guy knows what they're asking of him - he will then be an exceptional partner and devoted companion.

Niles is a lightly shedding pup and will therefore require great nutrition and periodic baths/brushing to keep any shedding at a minimum and to keep his cottony-soft coat healthy and shining.

Niles will be arriving on transport in Denver on 6/11/15. If interested in this beautiful and very sweet and kind companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
