My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Farfel's Rescue was notified by a compassionate rescuer in Roswell, NM that a very beautiful Yorkshire Terrier had just been turned into their high-kill shelter and was scheduled for euthanasia in just a few days. The rescuer spoke of this 3.5 - 4 year old (perfect age for a Yorkie..old enough to have left puppyish behavior behind and young enough to have many active years left ahead), 4.5 - 5 lb pup as a gift of love. She saw Cosmo as a dog that had gotten caught in an awful situation through no fault of his own. He became the victim of a backyard breeding ring that opportunistically bred tiny dogs in awful conditions. These dogs weren't given the gifts in life that every living being deserves. It's now time to gprovide this little guy the quality of life, socialization, hugs and belly rubs that every dog deserves. With patience and time spent with a loving and nurturing guardian who sets clear boundaries, Cosmo can learn that the world can be a positive and wonderful place.

Farfel's is searching for a special all-adult family for this sweet dog. Children can be scary when you only weight 4.5 - 5 lbs with their fast movements and loud voices. We stared at Cosmo's lovely, very expressive eyes staring out of the shelter photo (they spoke of challenges and sad times)... and heard the reports of his carefully wagging tail that made his desire clear to trust and bond . We accepted Cosmo immediately into our rescue. He has every possibility to be a great pet if given the time, very gentle handling with no timetable for his success. It will come when this sensitive little guy is ready to trust...and his people have fallen in love with him (it's inevitable!).

Cosmo was removed from the shelter, vetted and temperament-tested. He was then brought to a nurturing New Mexico foster family to start him on the road to mastering his adult skills. While very frightened, Cosmo makes progress in baby steps each day. Farfel's is committed to finding Cosmo a responsible and dedicated family who will enjoy him for the devotion, sweetness and strong desire to please that's just waiting to emerge. Once Cosmo becomes comfortable in his surroundings, he will be a friend that will make you laugh at his silly antics and want to hold him tight just because he's so incredibly cute!

We would love to see Cosmo in a home where he becomes a true member of the family. Retirees or individuals who work out of the house would be perfect for this sweet young guy. Cosmo tends to be a calm and very sensitive dog at this point. Once secure in his surroundings, Cosmo loves nothing more than to settle into his person's lap and stay put with an occasional lick and a wag of delight at his good fortune. He would love walks outdoors in the sunshine and is portable enough to bring along on dog-friendly adventures.

We feel that Cosmo didn't have positive experiences with other dogs when he spent his earlier life full-time in a cage. We're not certain what occurred, but we do know that this beautiful little dog would be happiest living as a one and only. He would thrive on the positive attention and bit by bit would emerge as a best friend to his human family.

We've requested that Cosmo be neutered prior to his transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that this will occur...a case of too many dogs and too few vets. Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for fixing and microchipping Cosmo after his arrival if our Denver vet is used.

Cosmo is a non-shedding pup (under the listless shelter hair..there's a gorgeous coat just waiting to grow out). He will therefore require periodic baths/grooming and great nutrition to keep his cotton-soft coat shining and matt-free.

Cosmo will be arriving on transport in Denver at the end of July, 2015. If interested in this sweet dog who is so full of hope and potential, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
