My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Wheaten Terrier/Basset mix is a perfect combo for those with who are searching for an extremely kind and loyal family dog. Of utmost importance...they're famous for their great temperaments and extremely loving and snuggly ways. They're also known to be trustworthy and very gentle with family members and other family pets...and since they require a certain amounts of exercise and absolutely love being with their people...if a hike is the order of the day - count them in! These mixes are known to run joyfully and energetically through the Colorado mountains...and then crash on the couch snuggling close to their favorite humans and canines.

Summer is an absolutely adorable and engaging girl who favors the coat, look and intellect of the Wheaten Terrier while taking on the more laid back qualities of the Basset Hound. She appears to be a non-shedding (or perhaps very lightly shedding pup) and will therefore require periodic baths/grooming and great nutrition to keep her coat healthy and cottony-soft.. As Summer loses the old hair of her shelter days, her coat will grow in shining and less likely to shed.

Summer's Texas foster had the following to say about this wonderful girl:
Summer is a great dog and an awesome, very easy to manage companion! She is great with other dogs (I have 2 and I know it's a gift to have a dog that gets along well with others) and loves kids...I have 2 munchkins under the age of 4 and she is very sweet and respectful.
Summer is completely housebroken..just show her the area outside that you'd like her to use. It's such a plus that she's so clean about herself ..no accidents at all.
I have found Summer to be an awesome and fun-loving dog. Whoever is lucky enough to have her join their family is truly getting a gem!

Summer's sweet nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated...she makes close playmates everywhere she goes. Summer is outgoing and social and that means everyone she meets can ultimately become a friend. You know when a loved one approaches, Summer's tail starts the greeting and it wiggles up through her entire body ending in a smile. And if couch space is available, up Summer goes to cuddle and snuggle and let you know the level of her devotion. Summer is such a wonderful being...we think she represents the best qualities of the Terrier and Basset Hound.

At about 18 - 24 months old and 42 lbs (such a great medium-sized girl..perfect for enjoying the Colorado outdoors), Summer seems to have completely left behind the neglect and lack of love that made up her early life. She has become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier her family is with her behavior, the more she shines with her accomplishments. We would like to see Summer in a home that includes her in family time and activities...she's so friendly and would thrive in a family that truly loves her and considers her to be a very important family member. Summer would be a wonderful companion for just about anyone...retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young pup as well as families with children...Summer would be a true best companion throughout their childhood! Summer doesn't require another dog to be happy...but does truly enjoy her canine relationships with kind and gentle dogs.

Summer will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 7/24/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
