My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We got emails from a Texas rescuer about Willis...no one could accept that this very handsome and super-sweet dog was about to be euthanized in Texas. Both the shelter and the rescuers were set on finding a foster, rescue or adopter immediately for this pup. There were several opinions on Willis's breed combo but the Cardigan Welsh Corgi was by far the most noted. Willis was recognized as having a great personality and this earned him a ticket out of the shelter and a transport to Colorado.

Willis carries the beautiful markings and body type of the Cardigan Corgi combined with the silky-soft hair of the Fox Terrier. As beautiful as Willis is on the outside, it doesn't compare with the love and good-will that flows from the heart of this 24 lb guy. As our rescuer drove away from the dreary, high-kill shelter with Willis, he was so filled with relief that he climbed into the front seat, laid his paw on our foster's leg, breathed a huge sigh of relief and fell fast asleep. He slept all the way to the vet's office for his assessments...and passed with flying colors! So...off Willis went to his foster home to be reminded about respectful house behavior. Willis's great foster mom continues work on his socialization skills in the real world..trips to Home Depot, Pet Smart and the park are bringing out Willis's goodness. He is developing his skills and continues to get sweeter and more comfortable.

Willis's time in Texas waiting for his transport was time well spent..he appears to be bouncing back from any trauma he suffered at the shelter. We feel..as does his TX foster family...that with a loving, nurturing and committed home..Willis will leave his sad start behind. With patient and consistent leadership, self-confidence will emerge. He will settle into his new life with an open to anything attitude of a reborn dog. While he may be initially shy, once he's assured...he will emerge with all the joy that's living inside of him.

Since Willis has gotten an A for sweetness, cuddling and general positive behavior...he's ready to be a devoted family member. We envision Willis in a home either with older children who can play with and love him with a gentle touch... or in a home with active retirees who will shower time and attention on this devoted guy. We would never want Willis in a situation where he's alone for many long hours. Instead we would love for him to be taken along on hikes (he would be overjoyed and a natural on the trails), adventures and visits with dog-loving friends. He's almost impossible not to fall in love with...as a young guy, Willis is ant group obedience class would be perfect to guide Willis with kind yet consistent boundaries.

Willis is a blank slate just waiting for direction to be the best adult dog he can be. Positive reinforcement to be a non-shedding..or very lightly shedding pup and will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his lovely coat (with the beautiful facial markings) healthy and matt-free.

Willis will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 7/24/15. If interested in this sweet and fun-loving companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
