My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Golden Retriever/Long haired Dachshund mix is a perfect combo for those who are searching for an extremely smart and loyal family dog. Of utmost importance...both breeds are famous for their great temperaments and extremely loving and snuggly ways. They're also known to be trustworthy and very playful and gentle with family members and other family pets. Since this breed mix requires a certain amount of exercise and absolutely love being with their people...if a walk or hike is the order of the day - count them in! These mixes are known to run joyfully and energetically through the Colorado mountains...and then crash on the couch snuggling close to their favorite humans and canines
.
Oz is an absolutely adorable and engaging guy who favors the intellect of the Dachshund while taking on the very engaging people-skills of the Golden Retriever . Oz actually resembles a tiny Golden with just a touch of Doxy in the mix for some additional cuteness. His apricot coat is all-Golden...gorgeous and cottony-soft. Oz will therefore require periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy and increasingly more beautiful as he loses the old hair of his shelter days.

Oz's sweet nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated...he makes playmates everywhere he goes. He is social and that means everyone he meets has the potential to become a friend. You know when a loved one approaches, Oz's tail starts the greeting and it wiggles up through his entire body ending in a smile. And if a place is available next to a favorite family member, up Oz goes to cuddle and snuggle and let you know the level of his devotion. Oz is such a wonderful being...we think that he represents the best qualities of his breeds. At about 18 - 24 months old and 15 lbs, Oz seems to have left behind the neglect and lack of love that made up his early life. While he may be initially shy, Oz has become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he shines with his accomplishments.

We would like to see Oz in a home that includes him in family time and activities...he's a very happy guy once comfortable in his surroundings and would thrive in a family that truly loves him and considers him a very important family member. Oz would be a wonderful companion for active retirees or families with kids 10+ (no tail pulling or poking please) who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young guy. Oz doesn't require another dog to be happy...but does enjoy his canine relationships and playtime with kind and gentle like-sized dogs.

We've requested that Oz be neutered and microchipped prior to his transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that our request will be fulfilled due to too many dogs and too few vets in impoverished Alamosa, CO. If Oz arrives unfixed, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for his neuter and microchip if our Denver vet is used.

Oz will be arriving on transport in Denver on Thursday 8/27/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this sweet and playful best friend, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
