Indie is an incredibly cute ball of cottony fur that climbs into your heart (and lap) with a hug and a wiggle. Once he gets a sudsy bath and haircut...Indie will absolutely be one of the cutest guys around. At 3 years old and about 11 lbs...such a perfect size and age - these small mixes are known to live very long lives. Indie is old enough to have left puppyish behavior behind...he's perfectly house trained and always respectful of the home. Yet he's young enough to have many, many active years left for being a great companion and lap-dog extraordinaire!
Indie is every bit the puppy-like guy...fun and active. But at the same time he is a very well-behaved dog who is not needy or unnecessarily vocal - he usually expresses himself with his wagging tail and excited kisses. Indie loves everyone (both humans and canines)..but can initially be shy. He is immediately very comfortable with women but men and children need to be understanding that it may take just a bit longer for Indie to trust. Once he does, however, there is no better or more bonded best friend. We want to nurture this positive vision of the world by matching Indie to a family who expresses their love for him in many different ways.
Farfel's rescued Indie from a high-kill shelter a couple of years ago. He was a beautiful and very sweet puppy..and was adopted immediately by a great Colorado family. This family has recently suffered from financial and personal challenges and are so sad to be forced to part with their best friend. They've done a great job in teaching Indie the joys of life and now he is ready to bring his skills to another very lucky family. They had the following to say about sweet Indie:
Indie is a charming and very sweet 3 year old Yorkie/Dachshund mix. He has become my best friend (seriously). Probably due to our very close relationship... Indie is most comfortable with women initially, but is fine with men and children after warming up. Indie may bark at some people he is unfamiliar with... but give him a moment and he is quite friendly and open to getting to know them. Indie ignores other dogs until they actually meet, and then if he feels confident that they're friendly and gentle, he loves to play. Indie is completely house broken (hooray) and very clean about himself. The truth is that Indie's true favorite pastime is to snuggle with, on or next to his favorite people.
This cute little scruffy boy will follow you around the house because he LOVES people. He walks well on a leash and some have reported seeing him dance when happy...so cute! He will be an amazing best friend and sweet lap-dog to a very lucky family!
Right now, Indie is a blank slate who will soak up positive feedback with every effort to be the best behaved guy around. We think Indie would be great with very gentle older children (12+ would be great) or with an active adult family or retirees who will include him in their activities. Indie is so portable that he can easily be a constant companion - he would love nothing more than walks, trips to the store (he's a great window-shopping friend) or even a place at a pet-friendly workplace. Indie is young enough that he can be introduced to virtually any situation...and if there is love and gentle guidance...he can succeed.
