My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jason could be that dream come true pup for a family or retirees who love spending their time with a cottony-soft and very sweet companion. The Havanese is a perfect combination of breeds for those who are searching for an extremely smart, loyal and fun-loving family dog.

His story is all too common in his extremely close call to being euthanized in a scary Texas shelter....but who could ignore his adorable manner and desire to bond with anyone who has the potential to be his best friend? Jason, while initially shy...his engaging and adorable nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated. His outgoing and social temperament lead him to ultimately become a friend with everyone he meets. He is such a wonderful being...we think he represents the best qualities of the Havanese breed.

Jason seems to have left behind the neglect and lack of love that made up his early life. At about 18 - 24 months old and 13 lbs, Jason is a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he shines with his accomplishments.

We would love to see Jason in a home that includes him in family time and activities...he's very social and would thrive in a family that truly loves him and considers him a very important family member. Jason would be a wonderful companion for retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young pup. He would also do great in a family with very gentle, older children who are old enough to understand that a 13-lb dog needs to be handled with care and love. Jason doesn't require another dog to be happy...but does enjoy his canine relationships with kind and gentle dogs.

Jason's Houston foster had the following to say about sweet and lovable Jason:

My family is currently fostering Jason and he is AMAZING!!! Don’t get me wrong, I love all the doggies that we get to help…but this little dude is SO fun!! He was a bit timid at first when I picked him up, but who wouldn't be in an overpopulated and scary shelter?!? :( Anyway, that lasted until we made it outside the shelter door…then he turned into this bouncy, loving, super sweet, attention- seeking little gremlin!!! He wants to be in your lap and be loved on! Jason loves to be near his people (he is currently lying next to me on the couch as I type). He was more drawn to me over my husband, but I really think that has more to do with the fact that I picked him up from the shelter and spend tons of time with him. We walk, play, cuddle and generally love each other! Don't get me wrong...Jason is friendly and sweet with my husband (as he's been with everyone he's met), he just doesn’t find it as necessary to attack him with love, as he does me...he's so wonderful!

Jason whined for a few minutes last night in the kennel, but quieted down very quickly and was fine for the remainder of the night. So far, no accidents inside - so amazing for a dog that's straight from an awful shelter. Jason is very interested in playing and having so much fun with one of our little dogs. He has a terribly funny little gremlin growl (my husband and I laugh every time he does it) when larger dogs get in his face, but then he goes ahead and plays perfectly with them. He is definitely a super friendly guy!

There's absolutely no question about it...Jason is the one that I would keep if I could!! His new family is SO very lucky!

Jason will do well with anyone who's invested in spending time with their pup. He's so pleasant and portable that he can be a part of any adventure....it can be a leisurely walk, a visit with friends, a car ride, a vacation or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch - all of this would speak to Jason's trustworthy, gentle temperament and extremely loving ways.

Jason appears to be a non-shedding guy and will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy, shining and matt-free.

Jason will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 9/11/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
