My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter! Odie, at only 9 weeks old and about 3 lbs (is estimated to be full grown at about 7 lbs), was facing the end of his life before it ever began. Farfel's Kansas rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this puppy...they rescued Odie just in time. This sweet and engaging Spaniel mix is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of his temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life.

Odie is also incredibly cute...with the spots of gold and fawn that have come out since he received a sudsy bath after his release from the shelter. He is appropriately playful and inquisitive for his young age. He's so smart and engaging...so typical of a healthy puppy. He's also bright and so loving...clearly having no memory of his scary start.

Since Odie is just a baby, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome companion - he'll form firm bonds with his family (as well as other dogs & humans) and learn positive socialization skills through Puppy Socialization Class followed by positive reinforcement group Obedience Classes. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the world with appropriate behavior.

We're open to Odie finding his forever home with active retirees who are motivated to train and enjoy a young puppy. Odie can be in a family environment as well but we would prefer a home with very gentle older kids (Odie is too small for any rough handling) that can participate in a kind and consistent training regimen.

Odie will be up to date on his vetting. We're hoping that he will be neutered when he arrives from Kansas... however a very young puppy like Odie is often determined to be too young to fix. If this is the case, Farfel's will cover all costs for Odie to be neutered and microchipped at our Denver vet to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation.

Odie will be arriving on transport in Denver on 10/22/15. If interested in this very cute, fun-loving and sweet companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
