We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young puppy. Yoshi is the kind of baby who snuggles in, loves you up and then puts his head on your shoulder. He's so sweet and social with every possibility open to him. That's the case unless a pup is in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great rescuer in Tijuana, Mexico for saving Yoshi from future abuse and certain euthanasia. She could see that his temperament was so sweet and his need so great that she couldn't turn her back on this very special baby. Yoshi was immediately brought to be vetted, given the appropriate vaccinations, granted a health certificate and brought to a dog-loving foster to begin his education as a cherished house dog.
When we think of rescue, our thoughts don't usually go onto the tough streets of Tijuana. But these forgotten dogs deserve our help every bit as much as their US counterparts. They all have been used for opportunistic purposes...to either breed and discard or to sell as a puppy to a Mexican mill or rich tourists. Virtually all of them have lived on the streets and survived by learning to be social. They love people because compassionate tourists were their means of survival. They can sit in any language and fit quietly into any scene to earn a treat or discarded meal.
This was the life waiting for Yoshi...a beautiful Poodle/Bichon mix (he was identified as this breed mix by vets and his Tijuana breeder..and he's the puppy of Guthrie and Poppy) is just 3 months old and anticipated to weigh about 12 lbs when full-grown. This is such a perfect size to be able accompany his family just about anywhere and fit right in due to his great temperament. Yoshi is already starting to display that sweet, cuddly and cooperative behavior that makes great things happen in life. He was one of the extremely lucky young puppies to endear himself to the US rescuers. There was no way Yoshi was going to be left behind! We all have a clear picture of this very sweet and fun-loving puppy in a forever Colorado home with a family that cherishes him for life.
As Yoshi becomes comfortable in his home, he will become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he will shine with his accomplishments.
We would like to see Yoshi in a home that includes him in family time and activities (and some lap-time would be perfect!)... and takes that extra step to participate in puppy socialization classes. These classes take a very smart and social puppy like Yoshi and teaches them cause and effect when playing with other puppies as well as appropriate behavior around his human family.
Yoshi would also be a wonderful companion for active retirees who have the time and desire to train and be best friends with a truly adorable young puppy. Yoshi would love another gentle dog to play with...he will be so sweet and gentle as he puts his positive energy into enjoying the day with a fun friend.
Yoshi is a non-shedding puppy..and considered to be one of the most hypoallergenic breed mixes available. He will require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement would be great) to keep his cotton-soft hair healthy and matt-free.
