Theo could be that dream come true pup for retirees who enjoy spending their time with a scruffy and adorable YorkieX who is so loving and engaging. There's also no question that Theo would do well with gentle, dog-loving older kids 12+ who enjoy the fun and snuggles that a sweet little dog brings to a family. It's not that Theo doesn't enjoy young kids, but because he's such a small guy at only about 10 lbs and 9 - 12 months old, we want to make certain he's handled gently and respectfully. Theo does like playing and is entertaining in his silly antics, young energy and the huge love he wants to show to everyone he knows.
Theo's story is all too common in his extremely close call to being euthanized in a scary Kansas shelter....but who could ignore his adorable manner and desire to bond with anyone who could be his best friend? Theo is initially a bit shy..but give him a moment (a belly rub and yummy treats are helpful) and he inches just a bit closer to a welcoming lap. Before you know it he's gently loving you with a soft kiss. The awesome Kansas rescuers recognized all of this and knew that there was a home out there that would love, respect and make this little guy a permanent member of their family.
Theo would do well with anyone who's invested in spending time with their pup. He's so pleasant and portable that he can be a part of any adventure. It can be a leisurely (or long) walk, a visit with friends, a car ride on vacation or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch - all of this would speak to Theo's temperament. We aren't open to a home where the family members spend their days working full-time outside of the home....we'd like Theo to get more time and attention than is possible with that lifestyle.
We've requested that Theo be neutered and microchipped in Kansas prior to his transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that an appointment will be available in a city with far too many dogs and not enough vets to fix them. If Theo does arrive intact, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for his neuter and microchip at our Denver vet.
Theo appears to be a non-shedding guy. It's a bit difficult to determine with certainty since his coat is somewhat dry due to his shelter stay. Once Theo has the benefit of great nutrition and periodic baths and brushing, his coat will shine with good health and will shed either not at all or very, very lightly.
This shelter photo of the beautiful Theo absolutely doesn't do him justice! He's so striking and a spa day will give true insight into his Yorkie cuteness. We'll post Theo's new photo just as soon as we receive an updated version.
