My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tenor the dog is no singer (i.e. barker), so the origin of his name remains for me, a bit of a mystery. I can only assume he was so dubbed by one of the more musically inclined members of our Nashville-based staff.

What is no mystery is how wonderful Tenor is. This dog's inner beauty and outer beauty is as plain as day and apparent to all the second they lay eyes on our Tenor. In addition to being drop-dead gorgeous, Tenor has a super soft coat you will want to pet for hours and an extremely even-tempered demeanor that seems to calm even the most spastic of puppies and stressed out of people (I'm looking at you, Jean). He is a happy, spirited guy who is overall, kind and respectful with all, so much so that when he meets new dogs and cats his behavior borders on timidity. His preferred playmates are as respectful of his space as he is of theirs though he is willing and able to befriend just about any feline or canine in due time.

Tenor is a 2 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog mix. Like most Catahoulas, he is physically capable and agile. He loves treats and will happily inhale as many as you are willing to give him. I am jealous of this dogs metabolism and seeming ability to snack on hot dogs and ice cream alike without gaining a pound. Though I have a sneaking suspicion his love of walks, hiking and the great outdoors are what maintains his svelte 54 lb figure instead of some magically bestowed bottomless stomach and inability to store fat cells.

Tenor is amazing with all people. He loves to give hugs and get pet and lick your hands in greeting. He is a lap dog in the making and a cuddle bug interested in primarily devoting his affections to the people he chooses as his own, though he is not opposed to lavishing strangers he encounters on the street with his affections.

Tenor is house trained and is working on his crate training. He is eager to please and receptive to learning anything that can and will be rewarded with a snack. Tenor is great on the leash, knows basic commands like sit and down, and is overall a well-mannered man.

Tenor is adoptable in New Jersey, MD, Eastern PA, VA, WV and New England.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please apply online, at http://www.bigfluffydogs.com/online-app.php. Our main website, www.bigfluffydogs.com has more information about us and the rescue process. NOTE TO EMAILERS FROM ADOPT-A-PET: WE DO NOT RESPOND TO EMAIL INQUIRIES WITHOUT AN APPLICATION. WE REGRET WE CANNOT RESPOND TO EVERY EMAIL, BUT UNLESS YOU FILL OUT AN APPLICATION, WE DO NOT KNOW YOU EXIST. All known information about an individual dog is provided in it's listing. We do our best to provide accurate information, but adopters must understand that each home is different and the dog may behave differently in a new home. Dogs are creatures of their environment and you help make the dog what it will be. Homes considering adopting a puppy must be prepared for:1.) Flexible schedules for potty training. Puppies can only "hold it" for one hour per month of age (ex. a 4 month old puppy can only go 4 hours without a potty break).2.) Crate training until the puppy is at least one year old, to prevent chewing on inappropriate things when you can't supervise.3.) Socialization: The more positive and varying experiences as a puppy the better, both in and out of your home.4.) Puppy behavior and life stages are equivalent to a human toddler. It takes at least a full year to have a calmer, well adjusted dog. Patience is required and when your dog's behavior is a positive experience for you and those around you, your patience will be rewarded tenfold, for years to come. Please do not consider adopting a puppy if you have not thoroughly thought through the pros and cons of having one. So many people end up returning them after 3-5 months because they didn't realize the amount of work involved in raising a puppy.Patience, appropriate toys, socialization, and obedience training are all musts. All are time consuming, and can be expensive. All Dogs Require:Supervision with children and obedience training. Adopters that want to have good dogs must be prepared to put the time and effort into training a dog. Any dog requires work and effort, but a well trained, well socialized dog is more than worth the effort put in to get them there.
