My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Polo could be that dream come true pup for retirees who love spending their time with a cuddly and loyal dog who is the most devoted companion around. We feel that Polo would also do well with gentle older kids.. but feel his true comfort would be met by an adult family who enjoy the friendship that a dog brings to a family. Polo does love playing once he's comfortable in his environment and is entertaining in his antics, energy and the love he wants to show.

The shelter vet identified Polo primarily as a Shih Tzu with a bit of Poodle in there (he's so smart!). We can see both breeds in this striking guy. This 3.5 year old, 13 lb The Shih/Poo is a very popular designer breed that opportunistic breeders like for their high price tag. They're used toward this end...and then discarded without a thought.

Polo's sad story is all too common in a scary high-kill Kansas shelter....but who could ignore his beautiful face with the wise (yet frightened) eyes and wavy cotton-soft coat? Polo also has an adorable manner and a desire to bond with anyone who gives him a bit of time to get over his initial shyness. He will then be a loyal and devoted best friend and before you know it... he's gently loving you with a brave wag. Our awesome Kansas rescuer recognized all of this and knew that there was a home out there that would love, respect and make this very deserving little guy a permanent member of their family.

Polo definitely got some votes for one of the most matted, shelter-dirty guys ever (his out-of-focus shelter photo reflects the hopelessness of his pre-euthanasia situation). Due to flea allergy and stress, Polo has developed dermatitis (this is not contagious). This condition isn't uncommon in homeless dogs (it's a very tough world out there) and readily clears up with great nutrition, clean conditions and a calm/safe environment. Polo is also in dire need of what might be his first grooming. He is a non-shedding guy (considered to be hypoallergenic) and will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his brand-new coat healthy and matt-free. The beauty of this special dog will become evident as hid golden coat grows in cottony-soft and healthy. We're currently waiting for a post-shelter photo and will update just as soon as we receive it.

Polo (with a bit of acclimation) can be a part of any adventure....it can be a fun walk, a visit with dog-loving friends, a car ride on vacation or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch - all of this would speak to Polo's nature. We aren't open to a home where everyone spends their days working full-time outside of the home....we'd like Polo to get more time and attention than is possible with that lifestyle.

Polo will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 1/15/16. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this loving and devoted companion (as well as lap dog), please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
