What a sweet and kind Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu our Jersey is! Is that a LhaTzu or a ShiAps..we're not sure but it's a designer breed mix that is opportunistically being bred for their adorable looks, non-shedding cotton-soft coats and great temperaments. As a result of this human greed, these pups are being bred, sold for very high prices or dumped if they have any challenges. Farfel's is very happy to rescue these dogs and find them nurturing and committed homes.
At 18 - 24 months old and just about 25 lbs, Jersey is an incredibly beautiful guy (who is in dire need of most likely the first bath/grooming of his life!). Photos to follow to show off this gorgeous guy following his grooming.

Jersey is initially cautious...assessing the situation to make sure all is OK. This makes perfect sense as he's been through time spent at a high-kill shelter waiting for his pending euthanasia date. When he was identified with a great temperament, Farfel's spoke up to bring Jersey to safety (and a new forever family) in Colorado. Once he senses that all present are his friends, Jersey is so warm and friendly that he always hopes every pat and kind word will turn into a friend.

Farfel's Rescue has determined that Jersey needs a mellow home where he is an active and important member of the family. We feel that this would be more possible in an adult home (retirees would be perfect) where there's a more predictable environment. Jersey would be overjoyed to spend parts of the day together either walking the mountain trails (he's a perfect size to love hiking!). Then at day's end, he's the ultimate snuggler and sleeps soundly through the night.

It is Jersey 's love affair with life and all the hardships that he's suffered along the way that motivates us to put Jersey through Heartworm treatments..his precious life deserves to be saved! Jersey has tested low HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives.

We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Jersey as he becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails mellow time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills at Dr G's clinic and provide premium food and treats for this special pup as he becomes healthily heartworm-free.

Jersey (like all dogs) would benefit from positive reinforcement obedience classes that included the whole family - he is a super-smart guy who truly wants to please. Great training will give Jersey the skills to be an excellent adult dog out in the community. These type of classes will also bring out the great qualities of this Lhasa/Shih Tzu as well as creating a tightly-knit bonding with all family members

Jersey is a non-shedding pup with a beautiful coat with such distinctive markings (this will become more and more evident with grooming and great food/treats). Jersey will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition (salmon oil would be a great supplement for his health and coat) to keep his hair healthy, shiny and matt-free.
