When Mattie's rescuer walked down the aisle of the dismal Texas shelter, she was shocked to see the adorable (and extremely dirty and matted) Mattie tucked tightly into a cage...her time was up. Farfel's immediately got a call describing how incredibly cute and sweet this fuzzy little girl is..and the need to save her life. We immediately agreed and Mattie became a very treasured Farfel's dog. She earned a ticket to a wonderful new life in Colorado with her great personality and kind and positive attitude toward the world.
At 10 months old and 11 lbs, this very beautiful pup is a blank slate waiting for positive input and guidance to be the best dog she's capable of being. We'd love to match Mattie to a family that will spend lots of time with this very portable girl. She's a perfect size to accompany her family just about anywhere...and would love it. Positive reinforcement group obedience class will not only provide socialization and great skills...but will cement the relationship between Mattie and her family.
Mattie gets lots of attention when she's out and about...she's very engaging (while a bit shy at first) and as sweet as can be. She's also extremely eye-catching (that's difficult to see in her sad shelter photo. We're waiting for an updated photo that show Mattie's beauty..and her amazing dark and expressive eyes that speak of her desire to love and be loved). Mattie appears to be a fuzzy teddy bear mix... but we would never swear to her specific breed combination. We just know she has the most beautiful white and silver non-shedding coat that will be like the softest cotton once Mattie receives great nutrition.
When Mattie turns that gentle look in your direction, you can't help but smile at her adorable ways. You can see just a bit of a sign that this young pup has had difficult times. But not for her to be negative..a smile and a wag is more Mattie's style. It's clear that she has left any pain behind.
Farfel's Rescue is searching for an adult family (or with older, very gentle kids 12+) for Mattie. It's not that she doesn't like young kids...we just feel she wouldn't be comfortable with any tail-pulling or awkward carrying. A retired couple or individual would be perfect for this girl. She would thrive on the time and attention that retirees often put into their pets. Mattie, once bonded, will be a loyal and positive companion....that makes her very easy to spend time with just enjoying the wonders of life in Colorado. Mattie would also enjoy time with dogs of similar size who can be gentle playmates. When you're only 11 lbs, even a very well-adjusted puppy can be intimidated by large, rambunctious dogs
