My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tulip could be that dream come true pup for a family or retirees who love spending their time with a cottony-soft and very sweet companion. The Brussels Griffon/Cairn Terrier mix is a perfect combo for those who are searching for an extremely smart and fun-loving family dog.

Tulip's story is all too common in her extremely close call to being euthanized in a scary Texas shelter. But who could ignore her adorable manner and desire to bond with someone who would be her best friend? Tulip, while initially shy...her engaging and adorable nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated. She is such a wonderful being...we think she represents some of the best qualities of the Brussels and the Cairn Terrier.

Tulip, with her loving attitude, seems to be in the process of leaving behind the neglect and lack of love that made up her early life. At about 18 - 24 months old and 7 lbs, Tulip is a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please. The happier her family is with her behavior, the more she shines with her accomplishments. We would love to see Tulip in a home that includes her in family time and activities...she's learning about being social and would thrive in a family that truly loves her and considers her a very important family member.

Tulip would also be a wonderful companion for retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young pup. Tulip is a bit frightened of the quickness of movement and loud voices of young kids...it is for this reason that we feel that Tulip would be happiest in an adult home.

It's not an absolute requirement..but we'd like to place Tulip in a home with another small and very gentle dog. She enjoys her relationships with these pups and it makes her happy to just hang out together in the sunshine.

Tulip's Houston foster had the following to say about sweet and lovable Tulip:

I'm the luckiest foster in Houston to have the short-term friendship of Tulip! She's amazing, sweet and kind! I brought her around another like-sized dog today and she was absolutely fine.
Tulip can be initially very timid...but not to worry - she comes around to to be the ultimate snuggler. In the beginning, she cowered and ran from me when I tried to grab her to put her leash on (I really shouldn't have grabbed at her since she just met me). That's getting so much better as she's in the process of coming out of her shell. She would be perfect for someone who wants a true best friend...and is a great size and temperament to learn about accompanying her person just about anywhere. Tulip loves me so much that she's happy to be with me at all times and is definitely my little cuddle bug.
In conclusion...Tulip will be virtually perfect once she's comfortable and bonded. I would absolutely adopt her in a second but she's scheduled for her freedom ride to Colorado. I think Tulip will be overjoyed with the dog-loving families that always provide great homes for our Houston dogs.

Tulip will do well with anyone who's invested in spending time with their pup. She's so pleasant and portable that she can be a part of any adventure....it can be a leisurely walk, a visit with friends, or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch - all of this would speak to Tulip's trustworthy, gentle temperament and extremely loving ways.

It is Tulip's love affair with life and all the hardships that she's suffered along the way that motivates us to put Tulip through Heartworm treatments..her precious life deserves to be saved! Tulip has tested low HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives.

We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Tulip as she becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails mellow time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special pup as she becomes healthily heartworm-free.

Tulip appears to be a very lightly shedding pup..although it's a bit difficult to tell until she grows out her sad shelter coat. She'll require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her coat healthy and soft as cotton.

Tulip will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 5/13/16. We're currently accepting applications for this friendly and kind best friend. If interested in a sweet and cuddly lap-dog, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
