My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Schnauzer/Poodle mixes are always a favorite among the many groups of mixed breed dogs. We all seem to love their fun, outgoing and snuggly nature. Paulie appears to be a perfect combo within the Schnauzer breed. His truly beautiful coat (charcoal black and honey brown..so gorgeous ) lights up his adorable face. His dark eyes are so expressive that you understand the pain he's been through while seeing his optimism and love of life.

Paulie is obviously very special...he was found wandering sadly through a Houston neighborhood and a wonderful TX foster couldn't let him go..he brought him into her home to heal and to ready him for a forever home. At just about 12 - 24 months old and 30 lbs (the perfect size for hiking and playing in the Colorado mountains), Paulie shines with an engaging and sweet disposition. He is an active guy whose tail never stops wagging...yet calms down easily (particularly after a walk or hike) and can just hang out on the couch with the best of them. Paulie was described by the shelter as: Sweet, Somewhat Shy, calm yet quite Playful. He was great at the shelter with personnel as well as other dogs. Paulie enjoys gentle and respectful dog-crazy kids and would be an active participant in outdoor games in the yard or a walk to the park. He also enjoys the company of other dogs and would always enjoy a game or a shared walk.

Somewhere along the line, we think that Paulie was given love and respect..probably because he's so capable of returning warmth and kindness. Paulie is great to take along anywhere there are groups of dog-loving people. He can be a bit shy initially but always warms up with sweetness and warm hugs. We feel that Paulie would do well in any home that offered him love, time (long hours left alone at home wouldn't be in the best interest of this social and sensitive pup), appropriate exercise/ mental stimulation and positive reinforcement group training classes to make him the best dog he can possibly be.

Paulie has an amazing coat that will grow more beautiful and soft as cotton with great nutrition (salmon oil would be a great supplement) and periodic grooming. This regimen will keep Paulie's hair healthy and matt-free. Paulie's sad shelter coat (as shown in photo) may have to be shaved due to thick matts. It will grow in with the beautiful colors and cottony softness of a well taken care of coat.

Paulie's foster mom sent us this report on sweet Paulie --
Paulie is doing super well. He truly is a ‘ready-made’ dog:

· He gets along with all dogs and people here with no hesitation;

· He hasn’t had an accident in the house;

· He walks beautifully on a loose leash, naturally heeling, though a little indecisive about which side
· Rides perfectly in the car (when restrained, anyway; don’t know if he’d wander around if left to his own devices);

· Loves to play and explore in the yard but just as happy to lounge near me if I sit still

· He’s generally quiet, though he just discovered the ‘other dog’ in the glass fireplace doors and had a noisy conversation with it

· He latches on to his favorite person very quickly (that would be me) and is a definite ‘velcro’ pup, so being left at home alone every day all day won’t work for this guy

· He stayed in the bathroom while I showered this morning, watching in awe as I disappeared behind the foggy door (I tried out the blow dryer on him a little and he was a bit hesitant, but not scared, so I think he’ll do great at the groomer

· He’s fine in his crate, but does appear to get very sad when left alone. For overnight, he’d be perfect in someone’s bedroom, I’m sure (especially if he were right on the bed with them!).

I think that Paulie would be happiest in a family with a couple younger, playful kids. He’s got the perfect personality for little kids…especially if they like GI Joe—I can just picture him thoroughly enjoying crawling through the grass right along with giggling kids! He definitely needs someone home most of the day. I can say with certainty that Paulie is a find..especially if you have young kids since dogs that are great with that age group are very difficult to find.

Paulie is being fostered in the Denver area. If interested in this very sweet, loving and active best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
